Should Roe vs. Wade be overturned, and abortion made illegal, in all cases, how should a woman be punished should she get an illegal abortion?

What about the person who performs the illegal abortion?

The father of the child, should it be proven that he knew about the intended illegal abortion, or helped the woman obtain one?

For the above three, is jail time the appropriate punishment? Required counseling, community service, probation, fines?

If jail, how long? (the average time served for the murder of another person is currently around seven years in the U.S., for reference)

If fines, how much?

Why?

What about pregnant rape victims who get illegal abortions? Or the mother who aborts the child with a birth defect? Should the punishment be the same, different?

Note to all: I am not necessarily pro-life, or pro-choice. I haven't expressed any opinions in this question, so please answer without bashing my personal beliefs, with I have yet to reveal in this question. Thanks

I'm in favor of removing/overturning/decriminalizing a variety of our current laws... RvW is merely one of them. There shouldn't HAVE to be a law saying a person is free to do whatever they choose with their bodies. Unfortunately, there is a segment of society that isn't content making their own decisions, but feel compelled to make choices for the rest of us also. If I choose to abort an unwanted fetus, engage the services of a prostitute, indulge in recreational drug use, engage in sex prior to marriage... I harm no one except possibly myself. Funny how so many people REQUIRE the goverment to be their mommy... as if they can't make responsible decisions on their own, weighing the risks/benefits and coming to a decision that suits their needs...
As for it being a "perfect world" as one poster commented... funny how someone who has only 2 children would encourage the rest of us to become little Duggars... that is my idea of hell on earth. Not everyone is meant to fall into your little cookie cutter world of the catholic version of the christian god. I certainly wouldn't consider that degraded religion to be a role model. "If we did not contracept"... our problems would be double what they are now...
Here's my "What If" scenario for a perfect world... What if :
People didn't live in fear of ancient fables, but instead made rational decisions based on the reality surrounding them?
Sex wasn't viewed as something shameful to be regulated, controlled by others, discussed only in whispers. Sex education and effective birth control become the standard so that no one finds themselves facing an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy.
Gender stereotypes become a thing of the past.
We voluntarily lessen our impact on this planet and fought to heal the damage we have already done.
Education and a drive for knowledge replace superstition and fear.
Psychiatric counseling was available for all the petty dictators, the control freaks, the politicians...

The abortion law as established in Roe v. Wade is just fine how it stands. Women can’t abort during the first trimester. This is long before a baby becomes self-aware or conscious or anything more than a vestigial organ, really.

Using the pro-life argument assumes that, this being the case, every single egg and sperm cell in existence needs to be kept alive because they are each a potential child. Of course, this is idiotic.

The current US law is, if anything, lenient and sympathizing toward pro-life activists. It marks a time before the embryo becomes even mildly developed, let alone being a full-fledged infant.

For the event of illegal abortions, their crime will be punished accordingly, as it already is. The degree of punishment rests upon how developed the fetus is, if I recall.

Early on-- It's not murder because it's not even a baby yet. Until it has a brain, can think, and can feel, it's still just a gathering of cells. It would be no worse to kill off a cluster of unfeeling cells than it would be to remove a cancerous tumor--neither have a mind and neither can feel any type of pain.

BUT-- If it can think and feel for itself, then the mother waited to long to decide to get an abortion and should be punished for it. It would be her fault that she waited that long, she should have gotten an abortion when it was still just a fetus and not a baby. That's her fault, and she should carry it full-term.

This is a pointless hypothetical question. The hacks who perform these "services" are in the best position to know exactly what they are doing and profit the most from abortion. These "medical professionals" day after day look at the tiny feet, hands, intestines, eyes, and rib cages of countless babies that they've killed. Therefore, they are the ones that are most to blame for the slaughter of of 45 million children (in this country alone) and should be punished for it.

If there's any justice in the next life, and I think that there is, these hitmen with lab coats and stethoscopes (and the overwhelming majority are men) will certainly pay for taking tens of thousands of innocent lives. Of course, they could always return to the legitimate practice of medicine and attempt to save and improve lives, rather than continue to destroy them.

The salespeople at the abortion clinics are also heavily responsible for many of the 1.3 million abortions performed each year. To be sure there are plenty of women who go to abortion clinics sure that they want an abortion. But there are many other young, scared, confused women looking for advice and support.

The "counselors" eagerly hawk abortion, like used-car salesmen. They present abortion as a cure-all--a magical solution. Today, you're pregnant, tomorrow you're not--and there's no serious repercussions. The clinic is just going to "empty the contents of the uterus." The baby is "a fetus, a mass, a lump, a clump of tissue--it's not a baby or a person." Of course, it's all lies.

These salespeople certainly don't mention that the child's heart has been beating for weeks; its digestive system is functioning; it can make a fist and suck its thumb; and it has brainwaves. Those facts are inconvenient. These greedy salespeople should be punished also for their roles in keeping the lines to the deathchambers full of pregnant women.

These unscrupulous salespeople also help child rapists cover their crimes. If you go to YouTube and type in Planned Parenthood, you can watch videos of phone calls made to clinics by someone posing as a minor. This caller told the clinic staffers that she had been statutorally raped. Of course, the "minor" wanted to keep her older boyfriend out of trouble. In case after case, clinic staffers said performing the abortion and keeping it quiet would not be a problem--just don't tell clinic staffers how old you are and how old the father of the child is. Not one of these staffers asked if the girl was ok or tried to find out if the girl was being physically abused. Not one staffer suggested that the girl discuss the situation with her family or other trusted figure. The staffers didn't want to know anything which might force them to inform authorities--and told the "girl" as much.

That's why child rapists love Planned Parenthood. Statutory rapists know that they can rape young girls, and Planned Parenthood will eagerly cover the crime up for them. It's time for this shameful lawlessness and disregard for vulnerable young girls to stop!

The situation depends on the law of any country. where you reside. It is the law that give punishment and the prohibition of any illegal act./ For best result regarding your question, ask the lawyers in your country about those matters. One more thing is tht you did not spicify what country you are staying or where you belong. We are not well verse with the law of other countries.

No need to overturn RVW. This little mass of cells has not developed into anything viable. Women deserve all the freedom they can get after so many years of religious persecution. I do not advocate abortion with reckless abandon I prefer preemptive sterilization. But Abortion gives women a choice on how their lives go and this empowers them, which is beautiful.

The mother is as much a victim as the dead child. The abortion industry knows exactly how to play on her fears and to make use of the stress she is experiencing, to get her to sign on the dotted line and fork over the cash. Then they do their dirty work and kick her out the door. When she later experiences medical problems and calls the executioners, they tell her "call a doctor". When she is depressed, unable to hold a job or maintain relationships, or is suicidal, they tell her "see a counselor". It is the execution facilities themselves that should be closed, and any subsequent violators prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Well the beginning of your statement certainly shows your view. "IF abortion is murder?" It is murder.

Let's try another "if" scenerio.

If a woman is appreciated and fulfilled in her femininity and fertility as God designed, abortion would never even be considered by anyone.

If we did not contracept, children would not be considered accidents and mistakes. If we did not contracept, there would never be a pregnancy that was a "surprise" since one of the consquences of the action of sexual intercourse is pregnancy.

If all people in the world lived according to the laws of God:

No sex until marriage
Once married no contraception, open to life.
Spouses who are committed to God and each other
Parents who are committed to raising children to love God and follow his commandments and love their neighbors.
No one divorced because both spouses were loving and respectful of each other always....

Guess what...no abortion...no murder..no need for punishment. Of course that's a perfect world.

We do not live in a perfect world. The lives of children in the womb are wiped out daily as if they are nothing more then a disease or illness. If abortion became illegal...then we'd have a long way to go in unbrainwashing society first.

I do not think we can set a punishment, because many people do not see it as murder but as a right. It would take time to teach and create a safe world for the unborn. Once we got to that point, where everyone understood that these innocent defenseless people need to be protected, then we could discuss punishments for offenders.

I'm always amazed at the people who want to preseve the sanctity of life (no matter how small i.e. a zygote) yet they are ready and willing to supprt the death penalty (Horton, are you listening?). Seems as though there is a double standard for many....

Ask any women who has one and they will tell you what it's like - I mean the punishment. Not the external law but the internal one.
