I am 18 years old and have not been on any steady medication. My twitches have been going on for about two years. They seem to vary in severity very randomly. One day I'll almost twitch out of my seat at school and the next day I won't have any twitches at all. I have a normal sleep cycle and am totally healthy (so far as I know). I haven't had the time to see a doctor or anything fancy. Anybody know what could be wrong?

To clarify:
I had not just hit puberty (so it may not be growth issues).
I never really have excess caffeine.
And also, I do not have stress or nervous problems. Plus, if its been happening for 2 years I doubt it has to do with stress.

Muscle twitching
Definition
Muscle twitches are fine movements of a small area of muscle.
Alternative Names
Muscle fasciculation; Fasciculations of muscle
Considerations
Muscle twitching is the result of minor local muscle contractions or the uncontrollable twitching of a single muscle group served by a single motor nerve fiber or filament.
Muscle twitches are minor and often go unnoticed. Some are common and normal, while others indicate a neurologic disorder.
MAKE NOTE OF THESE CAUSES!!!!!!!!
Benign twitches (not caused by disease or disorders)
Often affecting the eyelids, calf, or thumb
Normal and quite common, often triggered by STRESS OR ANXIETY
A DIET DEFICIENCY
DRUG OVERDOSE (caffeine)
DRUG SIDE EFFECT (such as diuretics, corticosteroids and estrogens)
EXERCISE
Symptoms suggestive of a neurological cause of fasciculations include:
Wasting of muscle
Weakness
Other findings of nerve dysfunction
Neurological illnesses where fasciculations are seen include:
Chronic denervation of muscle due to disk compression of nerve exiting the spinal cord
ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease)
Spinal muscular atrophy
Muscular dystrophy
Myopathy
OR MAYBE THIS WILL HELP:
I remember when I was on diet I suffered from m muscle twitches-it turned out I was in lack of minerals and vitamin B complex so as soon as I started taking their supplements the thing with my Muscle Twitches has improved. Anyway you need to make sure your Muscle Twitches are not the result of any neurological disease which also might be the cause of Muscle Twitches in some cases. Also heavy exercises might have caused you muscle twitches-also bunch of other causes might trigger Muscle Twitches such as eye strain, muscle fatigue, stressful situation as well as taking some meds or even drinking too much coffee. I also have Muscle Twitches problem during the night while I am asleep and that's the main reason I still am taking those mineral supplements to bring enough of calcium and potassium at first place in my organism. I also use hot packs and massage and I create a habit to drink a few glass of mineral water daily for I believe it treat my muscle twitching problems. I know a person that takes frequently botox injections to treat it but I wouldn't recommend it for it is painful and potentially toxic.

Well, at two years ago you were about 16. Soo, if these didn't happen before that, then it could possibly be because your body is going through puberty and your body could be making excess amounts of certain chemicals to try and balance out, and as a result, you get twitches.
Orrr, its because you are nervous, stressed, or your body just feels the need to twitch.
