Is there a specific reason why he doesn't want a dog? Does he think that you might not have enough time to give the dog proper care or is it because he doesn't like pets in general?

Either way, your best course of action would be to come up with the pros and cons of having a dog, make sure you'll have the funds to give the dog proper care (food, toys, vet), and figure out what kind of dog (if any) would be the best match for your life.

After that, the best thing to do is make sure you go to a shelter or breeder together, dogs have all kinds of personalities so it's very possible that he might find a dog that he does end up liking.

Hope it helps!

I had the same problem my husband didn't want a dog and I did. He told me that I couldn't get one and I did anyway. I've had her shes 12years old now she outlasted my marriage. If you want something bad enough don't let anything stand in your way just do it if he has a heart at all the dog or puppy will eventually grow on him. Just make sure you live in a place that you can keep it and it has room for exercise. Here many landlords do not allow pets. If you rent I would take that into consideration. Good luck

Tell him you need something around the house to keep you alert and safe while he's gone to work or whatever. If he asks you why you don't feel safe, then you say you only feel safe when there is someone or something there with you. You can't always have a friend over, so the next best thing is a dog.

Do you clean the house? Do you work? YOU should have a say and if you clean the house and work and can afford it, get one. Try to agree on a breed. But be strong, don't back down. Tell him to help you decide on a pup, or you will get it yourself. If he wants to be in on picking it out, then he'll come around. Dogs are great companions and protectors. Tell him the pros of owning a dog

Take him to the shelter and look around with him. After a couple of times doing that maybe he will crack and give in. I would buy one without his approval though cause that could cause big problems between the 2 of you and the poor puppy might end up at the shelter and that wouldn't be fair.

what are his reasons for not wanting one? his reason will depend on how to convince him.
but for my mom, who didn't want any more pets, all she had to do was see a puppy or kitten and she melted..
maybe go to a shelter and sit with the puppy or dog you'd like. have them take a digital pic of you holding the dog and looking happy, and show it to your husband.
If he thinks dogs will be too much work, you can print out dog training info from the internet, so he can see how it's not so bad.

I think it's time for you to take charge in the relationship.
You're not a child asking your Father for something, anymore.
If you're not living as you want to live, what is the point of putting up with all the hassle and work of marriage?
Life SUCKS without pets----get that dog right now.

You can't. Leave him alone and stop nagging. Why wasn't this discussed prior?

Are you going to take the same attitude about kids? Don't you two ever talk?
