Do some research, and find companies that have entry-level IT positions. Don't worry about whether they mostly hire folks who are college or tech school grads. Start working in a non-IT position for such a company. For example, get a position in accounts receivable or something. Do well and put yourself in the good graces of the managers. After a while get with the IT manager and inquire about positions often.

I know of three people who were able to obtain computer-related positions this way, although in two of the cases getting into IT wasn't the original intention.

Once you get one IT job, it makes it much more easier to get another one later. It just a matter of getting that initial experience, and to begin building a skill set.
