What would the world be like without fear?

Atheists say the main purpose of religion is to instill fear in everyone in an effort for us to act civilized as a people. Assuming they are correct, what would the world be like without fear. If people could do whatever they wanted without any types of rules, laws or consequences what do you think the world would be like?

GD you must be either pretty ignorant or pretty stupid. The question is exactly the same. If people had no consequences to fear for their wrong actions the rate of crime would increase drastically. Peace.

Well actually it would be just like the world in the days of Noah and like Sodom in the days of Lot. Mans wickedness was so bad that God judged them with destruction. This of course is the way we are headed as I write this. Man is becoming increasingly more wicked as more and more of God's laws are being laid aside. The wicked will be judged again and the righteous remnant preserved when Christ returns.

Indeed it is! With that said i must also point out that when Jesus sets up kingdom on earth for 1000 years there will be no fear for those of us who reign with him. In fact we Christians have nothing to fear right now.....

Those are two different questions.

A) If the world had no fear, then it would be much better. Everyone would be happier and nicer. Close to perfect.

B) If there were no rules or government (a.k.a. total anarchy) then people would kill, steal, loot, and rape without consequence. I'd rather live the way life is now than total anarchy.

we could use love to motivate and hope in place of fear and threats of harm or losing soul

start with education and people realize the silliness of faith and all of that

then in end, we no longer are cave men claiming a god to be a morning star that crosses the skies like the egyptians once claimed

Actually, It's fear that drives most acts of violence on people. Many people act out in fear. With out fear means you are comfortable in your surroundings and life. You do not need to fight for anything. I think people are better with out fear. Wouldn't it seem a little strange that atheists are good with out the fear of god, but Christians need him to be good?

Total mayhem. The percentage of criminal activity would double when normally law abiding citizens realized that could get away with whatever. Stupid turf wars would be rampant, different thinking opinions would separate us into groups. Civil war would ensue and history would ounce again repeat itself sadly.

chaos. fear is of the essence. without it, we'd be lost. fear is what gets us out of sticky situations. fear is what you'd see in scary movies, which a lot of people like. without fear, we can't panic. without fear, we'd be free to do what we want to do, yet we'd be killed in the process because we'd be taking risks all the time

Without "responsibility" it would suck, but you don't need to breed fear to instill responsibility... Try teaching respect instead of fear.

I can say this much, I AM NOT ATHEIST, I am a deist, I DO NOT BELIEVE IN A MONSTER THAT SENDS PEOPLE TO BE TORTURED IN HELL.
People that acts in the good way out of fear are really not good people. PLENTY OF ATHEISTS HAVE GREAT MORALS, actually better than the so called Christians or muslims. YOU DO NOT SEE ATHESTS BLOWING UP ABORTiON CLINICS, having HOLY WARS ,OR HIJACKING AIRPLANES INTO BUILDINGS.
RELIGION HAS DONE A GREAT DAMAGE TO SOCIETY.
