Essentially love gives, and obsession needs to take.
Love is unselfish, nut obsession is selfish to the point of greediness.
Please read God's Word on the subject of Love...
1 Corinthians: Chapter 13 says...
1 If I speak in human and angelic tongues, but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.
2
And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.
3
If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4
Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated,
5
it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury,
6
it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth.
7
It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8
4 Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing.
9
For we know partially and we prophesy partially,
10
but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
11
When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things.
12
At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known.
13
So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
...that is certainly NOT the description of thoughtless obsession (which is closer related to infatuation, also known as "puppy love", but obsession is an illness that can turn violent!!!

Love is a deep feeling of afffection for someone based upon atraction, respect, desire to protect and care for a person. An obsession is the same thing only without the respect for the feelings of the other. without the respect for the boundaries that are clearly set by the one that is being obsessed about.

ha thats a good question...learning that in english class lol
to start with the definition of love is
A deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arising from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or a sense of underlying oneness.
the definition of obsession is
Compulsive preoccupation with a fixed idea or an unwanted feeling or emotion, often accompanied by symptoms of anxiety.
as you can tell, loving is to truly care for something, to want it but to give up everything to make it happy
an obsession is when you're preoccupied with it ALL the time and are unwilling to let it go.
true love is like romeo and juliet
and obsession is like how they were attracted to each other because of puck's work in a midsummer's night dream
hope that helps

Letting go coz you want someone happy is love. Calling them 24/7 is an obsession.

Great question. I can tell you from first hand experience. Obsession will tell you that it is love, but don't be fooled. Obsession generally comes on hard and fast, and makes you feel consumed with passionate adoration for the person which is blind to his faults and is totally unearned. It is blind to everything. It clamps down on your heart and makes you swing wildly in an exaggerated state of emotional highs and lows. It makes you do and say really stupid things.
Love grows. It can start out wild and giddy, but it doesn't go away all of a sudden in the light of reality. It has many faces, including friend, partner, lover, helper, fellow parent, etc. It is infinitely deeper and wider and stronger than obsession.
There's more, but just this much really takes me back to an obsession I had for this gorgeous man who knew he was gorgeous. My obsession cooled considerably one day when he was walking by our offices to get to his car, and he was looking in his reflection in our windows, admiring himself and preening a bit, but he wasn't walking where he was going and he ran smack into a tree!
My idolization of him took a big hit when faced with him with leaves on his clean lapel.
Bright Blessings,

Love is easy and comfortable; obsession is agressive and needy. Love is the palm tree; obsession is the oak. They both have roots, but the palm will be flexible and bend in heavy winds and therefore remain stable, where the oak will be uprooted and destroyed.

Love - you call the girl/guy you love often
Obsession - you pose as a telephone company repairman to climb up the phone poles and look in their windows

Love is really a choice. If you love someone, let it go and it'll come back....
Obsession is where you can't let it go anymore.
