I love to eat white rice with lots of butter, salt and ground pepper, with some Parmesan cheese grated on top.

rice is weird in that if you do not season the water, thats as good as its gonna get. Rice absorbs flavor and so it should be cooked in seasoned water or broth. Elton Brown, from the cooking show Good Eats did an entire episode on rice so if you can look that up on his web site, there is many tips that are helpful. I do this when I cook rice, no matter how I am serving it or with what I am serving it.: a bit of butter in the pan, melted. finely minced onion and celery brown this lightly and then add your rice and enough water or broth to equal how much rice you will end up with. This means that if you are cooking 1 cup of raw rice, you end up with 3 cups of cooked rice so will need 3 cups of liquid to cook your rice in. I generally use chicken broth but if you are serving your rice with a beef dish, by all means use beef broth. Again, no big deal. if you don't have broth handy, 3 cups of water and 3 beef bullion cubes (or chicken bullion cubes) will work just as good. When it boils, turn down the heat to a nice simmer and cover loosely. In about 20-30 minutes most of the water will be gone and the rice will be tender. You can add some peppers when you saute the onion and celery if you want. Or even a few slivered carrots for color. After the main seasoning, you can add what you like. Always add just a bit because you can always add more but cannot take it away.

Cook the rice first, then fry some garlic and onions -
When that is golden brown put the cooked rice in the mixture and make Chinese fried rice!
Anything will go with fried rice, leftovers, one or two eggs, canned tuna, vegetables...
Sprinkle a little salt (sea salt preferably over the top of the cooked fried rice.

You can add chicken stock instead of water. You can also put spices in there like garlic powder, cajun spice, chili pepers etc...
