I am really worried. I am force feeding her and giving her Sub Q fluids. I keep calling the vet but he doesn't give me any advice. He says that there are toxins in her system but he feels she will recover. Any advice? I found her and I have grown fond of her.

Hi. I'm so sorry to hear your kitty has gone thru so much and you as well.

I agree with the other three people that just answered and think you should see another VET.
Your vet should be concerned with the "toxins" running thru her system and have given her antiobiotics, both oral and IV.
Also prednisone/medrol may prove to be very helpful....but in a small dose and a one time shot.

I think it is terrific that you have taken her in and have done so much.

You may want to place her on a heating pad covered with several baby blankets and turn the heating pad on low.
Place her food and water dish close to the bed and turn the lights off except for a night light.
Maybe let some soft, soft music play or the sound of a waterful quietly in the backround....to keep her company and let her rest.
She will be thrilled with the "heating pad on low" as it will warm her body temperature and may help eliminate some of the toxins in her system.
I will keep you both in our prayers. Many blesssings, Patti

Did he get dropped on his head? It's unlikely you would know but signs and symptoms are some times along these lines.. also for internal injuries. If he never has ( gone potty) then he may not be capable of doing so. If he is eatting litter, then keep him limited to some place where you can cover the floor in something else and keep him away from the litter. It can screw you up but it might be a sign he needs something nutritionally ( which he obviously does from not eating or drinking for days). Cats and Kittens also like to hide where they go potty some times. So you should really try trapping them in a room where you can view every inch. If he doesn't go potty for two days while trapped some where where you can monitor if he goes potty, then he may need medical attentions. I'm assuming you've had him for a couple days and he didn't go in that time. If you aren't sure then give it three days since urine might not be as noticeable as feces and kittens some times can manage to magically not produce feces for a couple days. I would be concerned about his digestive track ( includes stomach), head, and intestines ( included in Digestive track but people won't accept that). There is also this tricky rare thing that happens where if a young cat or kitten can't smell, taste, or see something, then they won't eat it. So does he have vision problems, has anyone done something stupid to his tongue, and has he recently had a cold? You may want to droplet milk onto his nose and introduce soft food onto his nose,.. then he will be forced to lick it off and know what it is if anything is wrong with his taste, smell, or vision.

Is she on an antibiotic? It will take time for the toxins to work their way out of her system. Keep giving her the fluids. What does concern me is that the vet isn't concerned about her not eating or drinking on her own. That alone could cause major organ shut down.If she isn't better in the next day or 2, I would get a 2ND opinion.

I'd take her to a different vet for a second opinion. If she won't eat or drink, that sounds pretty serious. My dog only refused food once, and it turned out she had a GI obstruction that required surgery.

I'm no vet, but she might need IV fluids and antibiotics.

Vets vary in their competence. I've had one vet prescribe a treatment that was completely ineffective. I thought I might have to put my dog down because of it's condition! A second vet cleared the problem up within a couple of months.

A cat can't survive without water. It looks like the vet doesn't want to take responsibility. Try another vet. they will tell you if it is caused by the surgery as the vet who preformed the surgery wouldn't want to get into trouble and could just cover up. Definately another vet. the cat has to drink and soon!

Did the vet give you antibiotics to give her at home? He certainly should have. Pain medication, too.

You've been phoning him and telling him that the cat won't eat or drink...has he asked you to bring her back for an exam? He should have.

"Toxins in her system" means an infection.

I think it's time you took her to another vet. She should be much better by now, in fact before now.

Don't delay. This sounds very serious.

Take her to another vet! They can exchange info over the phone if need be. That first vet doesn't sound like much. Did they want you to leave her in the hospital or did they tell you to do the subq's at home? Sometimes they need to be on IV fluids in the hospital. Was this a $$$ issue?

seriously i would call a different vet and ask their advice for a second opinion. perhaps your vet is correct but i'm nervous and she's not even mine. good luck. cats can get depressed after her kittens are(taken). sounds like you are doing what you can. vet is correct about toxins in her system so don't worry too much. but it never hurts to get a second opinion.

I totally agree With "Kimbee J." Go and visit another vet. Our vet at one time was really rude, and so we went to another that a little farther away, but a LOT better. He even explained everything, and gave me a tour of the place! He was soo nice. Well, go to another vet. I also think she might be depressed, because she thought she was going to be a mother!

PS. I will pray for your cat.

God Bless.

she could still be recovering or sad about having her babies taken away because they were dead. If she still does the same thing, go to a different vet and have them check her out. You might have gone to the wrong vet.
