My mom has been suffering terribly with what the doctors call post-herpetic neuralgia and have not had too much success treating it. The pain is excruciating. Has anyone you know had this cruel condition?

She has had several nerve blocks which did not work, maybe the Dr. wasn't proficient in it. She has had acupuncture, she does take Tylenol 3 3xdaily but it does not help much due to the severity of the pain. This has been going on for many years and is ruining the last years of Mom's life! She is trying to carry on and not give in to it completely and become an invalid.

Ask for Lyrica. It was designed for that very reason. Also, the doctor SHOULD definitely prescribe a pain med stronger than Tylenol 3. Its unbelievable that the doctor hasn't done that yet. GO SEE ANOTHER DOCTOR! Ask for Lyrica!!!!
Good Luck.

I cured my sciatica with this natural treatment http://cure-sciatica.info
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

Sometimes, medications that are prescribed for seizures can reduce nerve pain. Neurotonin, Tegretol these are the brand names. Has she been evaluated by a specialist?? Specifically, a Neurologist. The pain from shingles and other viral infections that affect the nerve root pain , can linger for over a year or longer. It would be best that she seek the advice and/or treatment by a specialist. I hope this helps.

This condition is very common after a bout of the shingles.

You mom's doctor should have given her pain medication for the pain. If not she should ask for some.

The Mayo Clinic lists several different things that can be done to treat the pain.

Hello,

I am sorry to here about your mother and how her quality of life has diminished. I to suffered from nerve damage several years ago. The doctors put me on several medication trials but nothing seemed to work. Then a friend brought me a product that enhances your bodies ability to release your own adult stem cells, about 3 to 4 million within 30 to 60 min. It has helped me greatly and I am no longer in agony. My quality of life has returned. You can learn about the science behind adult stem cells and this product.

Cold sores are caused by the herpes virus. Many of us already have the cold sore virus dormant in our bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores. We contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene. Cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then.

remember that you can remove genital warts by surgery, freezing, laser, acid or cream but genital warts can reappear again and again because genital warts appears when your immune system is weak!

I got diagnosed with herpes type 2 about seven years ago, when I was still in college and had a stupid one-night stand. However, Not only was I able to remove all traces of the herpes virus from my system in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating again!
