Rockefeller Is Better Than The Empire State!
But The Empire State Is Good.
For Shopping, Soho, Canal Street, Times Square.
There Are Loads Of Shops Everywhere.
You Could Also Visit Ground Zero, Central Park, Broadway. If you go to the Hop On Hop Off Bus Place In Times Square They Have Lots Of Maps & Booklets Of Whats On In New York There Really Handy!

Don't forget to take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry. There is plenty of shopping all over Manhattan. Greenwich Village, 8th street is great shoe shopping! Nassau Street if you take that ferry ride. 5th ave, you can shop right from the many vendors on the street. Have Fun and you will Love NYC!! While you are there catch a Broadway show.

Catch a game - I vote for a Mets game, but if you like that other team I guess you should see them instead.

Museum of Natural History

Central Park (eat lunch at Tavern on the Green)

Broadway/Radio City Music Hall

Pretend you're a bride and go poke around the gown warehouses in the fashion district

... pick up a Time Out Magazine or travel guide.

My advice is, just walk around. The empire state building was kind of boring, for me atleast. As for shopping I do like to go to Macy's (42nd street) when I go to the city, it's nice. But it depends what stuff you like.

Depends on your budget - the rich go to 57th Street. Those on a tight budget shop Canal Street.
