PS2 was release in 2001 and PS1 had the first Dual Shock Controller.

PS2 was released on October 26, 2000. The PlayStation system that had the first Dual shock controller was the original PlayStation.

The original playstation had the first dual shock controller. I have the dual shock version of original Resident Evil, the Director's cut. As for when the ps2 was released, I believe it was 2001.

2000 and the dual shock came out with it.
Edit; it came out here in the UK in 2000 (for some reason i still have my pre-order form), and I believe the US got there's before us (they usually do.) i was wrong about the dual shock, though.
