That would probably start a fire, use a skillet.

Don't try and grill over the open stove flame, not a good idea! Be sure to use a pan, and cast iron is really good.
Or, just go buy a cheap grill. The charcoal ones can be as cheap as $15 at the dollar store, save your allowance and go get a grill and some charcoal.
Or, if all else fails, just go to Burger King, they have char-broiled bugers on an open flame. . . . . . . . . . And you can get a fry on the side with a milk shake.

If you're going to pan fry the burger, use medium high heat and start with a little oil to keep the burger from sticking. If you have a cast iron skillet, that's better than a regular skillet. Cook it about 5 minutes on each side dependent upon how thick it is. Top with cheese for the last few minutes to melt and make it a cheesburger.
Good Luck! And don't forget to wipe up the splatters around the stove top when you're done and it's cooled down.

it would be a spectacularly bad idea. when i was very young, i had the idea to grill hot dogs on the stove burner, and then roast marshmallows, both of them skewered on forks. the mess was monumental!!! there was grease all over the stove top, under the burner, throughout and under the drip pans, and , as i said, a mess. and to make matters worse, while i was roasting the marshmallows, after the hot dogs, the grease caught fire! hamburgers would make an even bigger mess than that.
it's a potentially good idea, it just can't be implemented. you just didn't think it through. sorry.

You can use a pan on a burner but you won't get the same fire grilled taste.
You can't use a plain burner at all. It's dangerous, plus burners work differently than grills. It will probably burn on the surface and be undercooked in the middle.

The burners on the stove aren't meant to be cooked on directly. You have to use some sort of a pan, or you'll start a fire.

A grill pan will come as close as you can get on the stove if you have one. It looks like a small griddle or large frying pan and has ridges on the bottom of it.

Things You'll Need
1 lb. ground beef
spatulas
2-3 button mushrooms cut into fourths
1-2 minced scallions
1 tsp. red wine vinegars
hamburger buns
mixing bowls
heavy frying pans
Steps
1Step OnePut minced scallions and chopped mushrooms in bowl.
2Step TwoAdd red wine vinegar.
3Step ThreeAdd ground beef to bowl.
4Step FourMix everything together with your hands.
5Step FiveFlatten the beef into four patties that are 1/2-inch thick and 5 inches in diameter.
Tips & Warnings
The vinegar, mushrooms and scallions add a nice taste, but you can make the beef patties without them if you like.
Use 85 to 90 percent lean beef. Ultralean beef will fall apart in the frying pan.
If the hamburger/vegetable mixture does not stick together well, add 1 tsp. vegetable oil to the mix.
