Go to a vet or something and see if he has a microchip or a tattoo to see...maybe his collar fell off

someone out there might be very sad that there dog went missing!! If it were your dog you would want someone to check and see if it already has an owner

if not keep it..or put founf dog signs up or something!

Edit: I'm really surprised at how many people are telling you to keep him. No one has any idea if he could have been mistreated or not, and from the sound of it, he wasn't. I honestly hope no one else loses a pet and never sees it returned.

Hmm....the road you found him on...was it a highway? Back road? If a back road, it's probably a good chance the pup is just lost. Yes, there is always a chance someone could have dropped him off, (as unfortunate as that would be), there's also the possibility the puppy got loose, and some family is looking for him! What leads me to think that is that he looks healthy and has a good demeanor and smells nice...all signs that he was taken care of by his family, and for whatever reason, he is now homeless. Generally if the pup looked malnourished, smelled bad, had bad fur, wasn't friendly, etc...it would seem more likely his family got rid of him, but that doesn't seem to be the case with how you're describing him.

I would call your local police station and ask if anyone has reported a missing dog (tell them the breed and that it is young). As much as you want to keep the puppy, unfortunately, if he has a home and is well taken care of, you need to give him back. Imagine that the roles were switched and your puppy got lost...would you want someone to just keep him?

If no one can track down the owners, or you come to find out the puppy was being abused or neglected, and your family decides to keep him, find out information on that breed and prepare yourself for the future of living with a puppy, or take him to the local shelter and let them take care of him. Surely someone will snatch him up quickly. But first, try to track down the owners...you did the right thing by picking him up, now you must do the right thing and return him. Good luck.
:-)

Wait a few days,If the owner is really looking for him, they will place an ad in the paper, and put up flyers. If there are no lost dog ads describing that puppy, then whoever lost him (or dumped him) doesn't really want him. This is how I got several of my dogs.I didn't put a found ad in the paper, but I did call and report finding them to the local police and shelters.I find that if the owners really care, then they should put the ad in the paper, and with a few dogs I have found, the owners had also called the police,as I had done, and so they got their dogs back. But I kept my two German shepherds and two beagles, because no one ever claimed them. So,I would keep him unless someone puts an ad in the paper. And,I wouldn't post flyers with his picture on it.If you do,ANYONE can call and say it's their pup, when it really isn't.Like I said ,if the owners are missing him,THEY will put up flyers and such.

Finding the owner may be the right thing to do. BUT, what kinda owner allowed his pup to be alone on the side of a road? It's possible that there's a good explanation, however.

Therefore, if we would do what we would want others to do to us, then you should attempt to find the legitimate owner. If you do find them and you believe that pup being with them is not in the pup's best interest, you'll have a dilemma.

So, try finding the owner of the lost pup keeping the pup's description vague. If the owner shows up, then do what you think is right.

Picking up the pup from the road and taking personal care of it was kind of you.

Good luck!

First, take the puppy to the vet in case he has illnesses that you don't know about. He looks like he's healthy, but he could have caught something bad while on the road. Well, after taking him for a checkup, put up flyers and posters saying you found the dog. Set up a reasonable time limit and if the owner doesn't come to claim the dog by then, I guess you could keep it. Good luck, and I hope no one claims him!

Try to find the owners! How would you feel if your pup escaped and nobody tried to return it. This could be a child's pet and they are at home crying while you are planning on keeping their dog. Some pups can be little houdinis so it is not fair to blame the owners or assume it is neglected. "it looks healthy and smells good" are not signs of a neglected dog. Maybe someone let it out.

Contact your local vets and shelters today. If it turns out that no-one claims him then he can be yours but not until then.

If you want to do the right thing............call your nearest vet and tell them you found a dog and the disciption. Legally if its not claimed in 3 days, its yours! I am a vet tech and I would recommend after 3 days take the dog to the vet and start puppy shots. You dont have a clue what that puppy has been through. You and others around it can get sick from it, make sure you guys wash your hands everytime you handle it. If the puppy is already up to date on shots, having more done will not hurt the puppy.

Awwwwww! I would look in the paper first just to make sure hes not on the missing dogs list in the classifieds. If hes not, take him to the vet to see if he has a tatoo or microchip in him. I would keep him! Just make sure you take him to the vet for his puppy shots and to get screened for any problems! Sounds adorable!

If you want to do the right thing. Call a vet and then if no one claims it within 3 days it will be yours. It is not fair for the family that lost it. I'm sure your willing to take care of it and all, but you should do the right thing. Good Luck!
