Yes, I think that's true. For one thing, people who are eager to feed others are often those who over-eat themselves.

Giving money to the poor may be a way to indulge your urge to feel as though it is "doing something valuable," but putting your own family into debt and poverty. Often, it is because you want to buy friendship, or gratitude, have your name known as a great philanthropist.

And of course gambling on lotteries that supposedly benefit your state's school system is still gambling. If you spend too much, you are depriving your family and developing a bad habit.

Also piousness is often really self-righteousness, and a tendency to pester others about what you believe they should or should not do.
