Bible is self-defined as "allegory" and "mystery";
so then it's an allegoric mystery to solve in time.
As to the sacrifice thing, check out the will of God.
It's notably always the same in the OT and the NT.
(Ps 40:6; 51:16; Hos 6:6; Mt 9:13; 12:7; Heb 10)
"I will have mercy (grace), and not sacrifice (law)".
It's about law vs grace no matter how allegorized.
Churchy legalists would have you believe other wise.
But the objective isn't to believe, rather it's to "know".
Such is plainly stated in John 8:32. It's not optional.
It's notably devils who believe: James 2:19.
So then believe [it] not: Matthew 24:23,26; 1John 4:1.
It's a matter of life or death, so check it out till you know.
Believe is a law thing.
Know is a grace thing.
Know truth makes you free of believe lies.
Pst: you don't want to be in the heaven Jesus is in.
It's notably "on high", and it's 'divided' left and right.
Christ is in heaven "higher than the heavens" on high.
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all.
Amen.

If we commit a crime , there must be payment for that crime . money or jail time. Saying I'm sorry to a judge won't do it , he Has to judge you according to the laws .A sin is a crime against Gods law . We all sin ... Jeremiah 17:9 ,Romans 3:10 , 3:23 ,6:23 ( Swearing , disobedience , sex with out marriage ,stealing , a bad thought ,etc... ) let's say we sin 3x a day for 60 years and die . That's over 60,000 crimes committed .The payment for a sin is eternal torment and suffering in hell . We will have to stand before God and he will judge us for our sins .OUR sins will send us to hell .There is a way out of the judgment day through the blood of Jesus. If we hear the word of god ( Romans 10:17 ) and come to know that Jesus died on the cross for our ( Believer ) sins Isaiah 53:6 , Romans 5:8 , 2 Corinthians 5:21. and confess the fact that you are a sinner , Romans 10:9 ,10 , 1 John 1:9 , and trust and believe in Jesus John 3:16 , 1 John 5:13 and receive him as your personal savior ,Acts 4:12, Romans 10:13, Revelation 3:20 ,. he Will forgive you of your sins. The people that believed before Jesus made animal blood sacrifices for their sins but , their was no Grace (Mercy )in the animals blood to make full restitution for their sins. Jesus blood paid for it all . Please go to a bible believing church to be fed his word .

James,
Jesus Is called the "ransom sacrifice" for a good reason.
In the Beginning When Adamand Eve disobeyed Gods requirements for living forever on the Earth they were sentenced to death and and banished from the garden of Eden to live with out Gods blessing in there life. they virtually chose to live by there own rules instead of living by Gods.
Now. We read in the bible after Satan had misled adam and eve God had pronounced a prophecy at that moment.
Gen 3:1-24 . The bible foretold that because Adam, a perfect man (representing mankind) had lost everlasting life in a paradise earth, a sacrifice of another perfect man must be ransomed in replacement for what Adam had lost, paradise and everlasting life.
This ransom Sacrifice would eventually be Jesus Christ himself. A perfect man for a perfect man.
This is the main reasoning why Jehovahs Witnesses believe that when Gods purposes come to fulfillment Paradise will be restored and millions will be resurrected back onto the earth.
Not heaven. Many people misunderstand, Gods Salvation for mankind is not heaven but but paradise earth, the planet he created for man. When you read scriptures about going people going to heaven, you are reading about the select few who have been chosen to go to heaven as priests to reign with christ in heaven over this new earth society.
Think about it God created humans and a planet and put them in paradise condition. Why would salvation be changed to Heaven that is for God and the Angels. His purpose has not changed. " May Gods Kingdom come!!"
THE PASTOR- I really hope for people sake you are not a pastor and teach your congragation that line you just fed everyone here. you should be ashamed and held responsible wow amazing.

He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, just as the lamb sacrificed in the Ancient Temple, so Jesus had to sacrifice himself to satisfy God's justice. But the animal sacrifices were only metaphors of the real thing, they never really worked. Jesus, the only sinless man, surrendering himself even to death, took away our sins.
Those who lived and died before Jesus awaited him in Sheol, the place of the dead. "He led captivity captive." Now all those people together with those since the cross who received the Savior go to him.
It's not being a good person that has any effect, but faith in Jesus.

It all goes back to Judaism, where they would have to sacrifice animals to pay for their sins. Yes, the people in the OT did go to heaven because they were God's Chosen People. God made many covonents with them. Life is in the blood, so by sacrificing an animal to God, it took away the person's sin (sin=death) and the death (spiritual death) the person would have to face if they didn't give the sacrifice. Now animal sacrifice was temporary, to take away the sins of the people before Jesus, but from the beginning the plan was for Jesus to come. His blood didn't attone for just ONE sin of ONE person, but for everyone because he is God and he loves us more than we can comprehend.
There are over 300 specific prophesies in the OT of Jesus, that were fufilled in the NT. If you Google it, they're real easy to find.
Hope this helped!
God Bless You!

We believe Jesus died to fulfill God's promise (covenant) he made to King David and mankind. God always keeps his promises. "David. Now read 2 Samuel 7:8-16 and Psalm 89. Over 200 years after Moses, God promises to King David an everlasting dynasty.
In Mark's Gospel especially, Jesus is reluctant to acknowledge his identity as the Jewish Messiah. Some refer to this as the "Messianic Secret." Why this reluctance? Because the people have a much different understanding and expectation of the Messiah than the destiny Jesus knows is his. Read 8:29-33; 14:61-65." Even Peter and the other disciples fail to understand Jesus' true identity as Messiah until after his death and resurrection (8:31-33). (1)
We believe that Jesus decended to Hell. He saved people who came before him like Abraham, Mosses, Aaron, King David, his foster father Joseph, etc-etc-etc. (3)
"Jesus died, not because God willed or demanded the death penalty for Jesus, but because of the jealousy, hatred, selfishness and cowardice of sinful humans. Jesus was not on a suicide mission; He loved his life and prayed that he might be spared the terrible cup of suffering and death, as we all should do. Then what exactly did God will in Jesus' regard? What I believe God willed was that Jesus be a totally loving and generous human being—a model for humanity—a person who would commit all his energies and love to the service of others, no matter what the cost. Unfortunately, sinful humans, acting against God's commandments of love, destroyed this most innocent and selfless servant of God and humanity. In an unjust, sin-ridden world, such a fate has typically fallen upon God's greatest prophets. " (2)

When Jesus died, he went to hell and defeated the Devil for the second time. He had to die because to get to hell, one must die just like getting to heaven. I'm not sure of any verses that support this, but i know out of other books I've read interpreting the bible. And before his death, people were judged based on action, as sad as that may be. Nobody said being a believer was easy, i guess...
I like your respect. We need more of you on Yahoo! Answers.
God bless.

Such a complex question can not be answered with a few words with such limited space. The people who lived for God under the Law are not lost. Jesus ( God ) came to save they and us. Remember the man on the cross who was saved? This happened under Law. Read Hebrews 10
Heb 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

To be saved is ask Jesus to enter your life . Pretty much that simple . You feel a change , you follow and read the word of God , Go to church and learn .
Jesus needed to be human to show that he went through everything we felt and still came out with no sin . We aspire to be like him ( even though we will never reach it . ) His sacrifice was there to for a few reasons , when he died , He entered Sheol ( Hell , for all intents and purposes ) and set free the believers of God before he existed as human . Another was a prophecy that stated he will proove himself God by resurrecting three days later . The method of Crucifixion ( because that's what they did to people of high crime . He went against the will of the government ) was to to feel the pain of all the sin in this world and gather it into him so that he may give reason to those who wished to be saved . and start over . Why do it like this ? I guess he had to give the best visual he could to make the people believe who he was . It was the plan for him to die from the beginning and dating back to old testament prophecy in the book of Isaiah and others . As a human who felt our pain . What greater price to pay than giving his life for us .
Wish I could you bible verses , but I was never the best at remembering the specifics .

Jesus was born from "The seed of the woman", no man had any part in His conception.
No other person was ever "without sin", Jesus was tempted in every way, but was without sin.
He had to die so that God could be glorified, and so that He(Jesus) could defeat death by being resurrected.
I can't remember the Bible verses.
Just follow Him
