The information is all good but the person with the answers has personal knowledge and has done the work as a plumber or something like that. I want to know who made those water heaters and when. I am still looking.

The most expensive water heaters are the ones with copper. Copper costs more but lasts way longer. Most units made today are steel lined with glass or porcelain. To prevent the steel from rusting, a galvanic cell is set up with a sacrificial anode of magnesium or aluminum — when the anode is used up, the tank will rust.

Also, as copper heaters last loner, the older the water heater, the more likly it is to have a copper liner. Like most of these at the Water heater measume: http://www.waterheaterrescue.com/pages/whh/pages/water-heater-museum-home.html

Keep in mind that the leak could be from a corroded tank. If it turns into a major break you will have a very large amount of water to deal with. I would get it replaced ASAP.

I hope those people aren't the same people who have been stealing copper downspouts from churches. The other people just want to know about that.
