My dad usually put my pets outside until night ( 1 chinchilla 3 hamsters) and one day i was in my room playing my video games and practicing guitar my mom left and told me it was gonna rain so get all the stuff from the backyard into the house with help from brother and grandpa. My hamsters cages are on the chinchilla's cage.I took in the hamsters cages first then the chinchilla but when i looked in the cage she wasn't in her little purple house or behind her wheel. The cage was a little open but it was too small for her to get out of their .(the bottom part) How could she get out ?I'm crying like crazy. My grandma said when she used to live in Kirghistan she had a chinchilla that ran away and came back with a girl and 4 little baby's.We have a big yard so she could get lost in there. We put her on the porch though. Is their a chance my chinchilla could come back?It is harvest time in my backyard and their is a lot of food and my grandma says it will come back before winter.

They can squeeze through very small openings. Put her cage outside where she can climb into it. She may be attracted to the food and water. Have you looked outside? I'd search for her and watch for movement. She may survive if there are no predators around. Don't give up. Tell your neighbors to keep an eye out as well.

Chinchillas are not, unless trained, well noted for finding their way home. I'm not sure where you are from, but tell Dad that Chinchillas are NOT outdoor pets, They need specific climate to survive. He probably got warm and took off in search of a cooler place to hide. They are burrowing animals who live underground by day(to keep cool) and come out to eat at night. If you don't find him within the first couple of hours, I doubt he'll be back. I am sorry.

I can tell you were very fond of that pet chinchilla. If you can't get her back, you may want to get another one.

I breed them. I never let them go outside. They do fine in a nice cage...but should always stay indoors.

Sorry about what happened. They don't like getting wet. They need dust to clean themselves.

I had a puppy chinchilla,3 easily. 2 of them ganged up and killed the different. yet they have been lovable and cuddly. they could value $a hundred and fifty and stay as much as fifteen years. be sure you and her are waiting for this.

I'd go look for it.

They are sneaky little buggers and if he/she found food - you better believe that where it is.

Good luck !

edit : No, I don't believe your chinchi will come back. I hope you went and looked for it right away yesterday. A stray cat or dog or something bigger could attack it before winter starts. Your grandma (bless her heart) probably hopes it will come back, but I do not believe it willl just hop back into your yard.

Okay - you keep adding details yet it doesn't look like you are even looking for the stupid thing ! We are all telling you that you need to go find it, it is going to die, but you sit here and type my "grandma says ...." If you want to believe your grandma - great. But quit asking for our help if you aren't going to listen to it.
