with the new (ie. as he was teaching them a new way of thinking and believing). As Christian, have we taken his words to heart, or are we mixing his teaching of old and not progressing our own spiritualize thought for the benefit of mankinds future?

Kickin I am unfamiliar with these progressive teachings of Christ who said the word is forever could you please quote me a chapter and verse?

edit to Tom, Both are true the Bible also says vengeance belongs to God. an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth does not contradict the teachings of Christ who said Let he without sin cast the first stone. The law requires every man's life. The atonement offers the same man life eternal.

The mix was new wine in old bottles and does not refer to Scripture but to the time of revelation. It also makes reference to the fact that a spiritual change must transpire before one can hold the new wine of the Holy Spirit.

It is not a matter of progress but keeping current with God. What progress is possible for eternal perfection? The new, in time, is always an outgrowth of the old in Gods plan. In a real sense the word is eternal, never obsolete; unless you fail to find the new wine and the life it brings.

Without new wine, men and those who follow them, remain under the influence of a dead letter, without life and without power. One fails, as the scribes, to see the changing times or what God is doing right in front of ones eyes.

This was a teaching for the Apostles; but admonition and rebuke for the scribes and Pharisees. They had fallen away from life in exchange for their own interpretations and traditions. The same thing that is wrong with Christians today.

Jesus was not teaching a new way but the old and living way they could not see. For he also told them that, had they known Moses, they would also have known him. His problem with the Apostles, before Pentecost, was the same problem faced by hundreds of thousands of Christians today. They still don't know who Jesus is.

Jesus did not come with a new message, he came to tell the people they had strayed from the teachings of Moses.

Because the books of moses had been corrupted, the Jews deciding not to like the message of Jesus; rejecting him as a prophet of God.

Early Christians created their own religion based on the teachings of Christ, which would have been about getting back to the basis laws of Moses. However later Gospels turned the teachings of Jesus into the religion of Jesus Christ.

The concept of Trinity, Crucifixion and Resurrection were all invented many years after the ascension into Heaven of Jesus, the much loved and respected prophet who shall return again, Peace be upon him.

Just as the atomic weight of iron does not change or progress, just as the speed of light does not change or progress, the Truths about God and Humankind also do not change or progress. The Truth is the Truth, and it is always the same. Each person's mission on the earth is to tell the truth to him- or herself, and to his or her neighbor. And each person must also go on a Quest to find out what the eternal, unchanging Truth is concerning God and Humankind. This Quest is not for the lazy or the cowardly. But all who embark on this Quest with a pure heart will find the Truth, and will become Happy forever as a result.

The words attributed to Jesus -v- the words of men state differently. The words of men state that the words of Jesus tells you to follow and obey the law of Moses. The words of men tell you not to.

Maybe the problem is that everyone tends to ignore what Jesus said and focus more on what the apostles had to say???????????

So, why did God suddenly change his mind? What happened to "eye for an eye" and what's with this new "turn the other cheek" stuff? That is the real question in need of asking.

You got that right but don`t expect too many to see your point. There is also another saying that says something like
`Ye shall not spit into the wind`.
