Sorry to hear about the situation. My dog broke his nail, which is slightly different, but some things you can do ON TOP OF visiting the vet and getting the pad looked at properly:

1. He might have to wear a cone, if he's constantly licking the wound. Overlicking will slow down healing, and may cause infections from bacteria in the saliva. If they wear a cone, this will prevent them from infecting and reinfecting the wound. Also, the dr. may give you a mild disinfectant to cleanse the area with, especially after walks etc. You may want to wrap the foot up (i.e. a sock or something) when they go for a walk, to act like a bandaid and give him some padding.

2. Vitamin E: Great for any kind of skin problems, even I use it on myself. Basically just buy some vitamin E capsules, pierce them, and rub them on the paw. It encourages cell growth and faster healing of the skin. But they will probably have to wear a cone cause they will be tempted to lick the Vitamin e off. It is quite a sticky fluid.

Anyways good luck, but really, please go see a vet!!!

It was likely caused by the bandage being too tight and cutting off the circulation to the pads, therefore killing them.. This happened to my parents' dog when it broke its leg :( She's still recovering at the moment (about 2 weeks after it the cast was taken off and we noticed the pads dead). We have a vet friend who comes around each day to treat the wound: wash in saline solution and then dress it with parafin bandages (to stop them sticking to the wound) and wrapped up in bandages.

Time to go back to the vet! A month is a long time for an external injury to be a big problem like that. Combine it with the depression and that says something is very wrong.

You may even want to go to a different vet to get a second opinion. A bandage should not rip the skin off of anything if placed properly.

Yes your dogs pad will grow back. It is going to be very tender for awhile while it heals...the best thing you can do is keep the foot clean and dry. If it starts to look red or swollen you can also put some neosporin on it.

first of all. circulate to the vet for the alergy. if your canines is chewing on his pads there could properly be some thing incorrect with them. Please take him to the vet. Im not sure if canines pads develop lower back, cuz im no longer completely specific on what its created from. It think of its like callused pores and skin, yet besides, take him to the vet. Get him regarded at!!

Take your dog to the vet IMMEDIATELY ... and SHAME ON YOU for taking the cast off yourself. If the 'vet' had done it, the pads may have been 'okay' ... as it is, your dog is going to be 'crippled' for MONTHS. Yes, his 'pads' will grow back ... but it will take LONGER because he must 'walk' on them ... even if he's walking on only three legs, the 'pads' on his hurt leg are still 'helping him get up and sit/lie down.'

It will grow back don't worry.

If you want to help speed up the process you can get a balm for their pads that keep them moist, but promotes new growth.

Use that and put a bandage over it for about a week.
