cayenne pepper powder did the job for me. I have a shepherd/lab mix that liked to dig (I think she was trying to bury her bones) and everywhere she started to dig I would put the powder down and she has stopped. Make sure you provide plenty of toys and water also. Good luck

You need to be outside with them so you can tell them "No". This is the only way to train a dog. Dogs, especially breeds like Dachshunds, love to dig. It's natural behavior for them. Dogs will also dig if bored or hot.
Don't leave them out alone.
Fence off an area of the yard and line it with patio blocks to make a potty area for them.
Just give them their own yard that is "theirs" to do with whatever they want, and forget about keeping it nice.

Watch the dogs while they are outside but try not to let them see you. when you see them start digging throw a can with a few pennies or something near them to scare them. repeat, when needed.

Dogs learn through association, then will associate the scare with digging and eventually stop.

As always I must insist on training the best way to teach a dog anything is with a firm foundation in basic obedience!

Try to watch them as they go outside. If they start digging a hole, yell at them and punish. but dont abuse them. Reward them for good behavior, and punish them for bad. See if this does anything. If not, call the Dog Whisperer.
