I am starting a new photography business and am so confused about which camera to buy. I want a Canon. I am trying to decide between the Rebel XTi or the 30 D. And I want to know about lens. I am going to be shooting photos of people and family shots. Which is the best lens and will give me all around performance? I want a lens that will let me do good close ups and all around pictures. What about the 18-55 lens that comes with the kits?

If portraiture is your major concern I'd suggest a fixed focal length portrait lens equivalent to 85mm to 105mm. Back in the day of film cameras 85mm to 105mm was considered a prime portrait lens.

A fixed focal length lens is faster than a zoom, offering more creativity and available light photography. Of course, you can do very good work with a zoom.

I always believe that Any Electronic Products should be purchased with latest configurations so you don't have to worry for next few years till next technology is available in market.
So go for some good one
IF YOU ARE USING FOR PRO USE THEN...
* Canon, Panasonic
IF PERSONAL
* Sony, Fuji

This is probably not the best camera for you but you should still check out this GREAT camera!

You should get the PENTAX Optio W30. It has TONS of features, VERY good picture quality, its sleek & stylish. And to add to all that, its waterproof! You can see the camera here: http://www.pentaximaging.com/products/product_details/digital_camera--Optio_W30/reqID--9587364/subsection--optio
I have had the PENTAX Optio W10 (a slighty older version) for a few years now and I absolutely LOVE it!
