There are many people who come up with quite different career ideas (ie blogging and living off advertising or owning a parking lot in a busy city), that require little to no schooling and very little effort, while making a very comfortable living. what are some kinds of careers that a person could set up and make a lot of money off of?

First, the bloggers who are making money from their site have 1) been blogging consistently for a while and have built up a base 2) have expertise & schooling in a particular field making their information valuable 3) have developed a marketing niche for their information and products. None of these individuals sit down for an hour a day and rake in millions. Often they work more than they would at a traditional job. It is just that they ENJOY what they are doing and don't mind the hours.

As for a parking lot in a busy city, maybe they inherited it (I assume you don't have that option). More likely, they worked their *** off to acquire some capital and made sound financial decisions that enabled them to invest in something that would provide them a steady income. Think of it more as a reward for hard work.

Most millionaires have EARNED their status through hard-work, owning their own companies and serving the public in areas that others might consider dull, dirty or even lower-class. But the single biggest factor for someone to become wealthy is a determination to become successful - not a determination to skip the work entailed to do so. Check out "The Millionaire Next Door" for some ideas from individuals who have actually done it.
