"Let every soul be in subjugation to the superior authorities for there is no authority except by God, the existing authorities stand placed in their relative postions by God. Therefore he who opposes the authority has taken a stand against the arrangement of God; those who have taken a stand against it will receive judgement to themselves" - Romans 13:1, 2

"For that is why you are also paying taxes; for they are God's public servants constanly serving this very purpose. Render to all their dues, to him who calls for the tax, the tax, to him who calls for the tribute, the tribute; to him who calls for fear, such fear, to him who calls for honor, such honor." - Romans 13:6,7

How can you say the Bible is the word of God and then mock those he has seen fit to place in power?

Hey, Pilgrim, I didn't paste it. Got it right from my very own copy of the bible. Yes, that's right, even atheists own bibles. They even read them, though not in the original language. Of course, I doubt you have either.

Not all Christians are Republicans. Haven't you seen Democratic candidates speaking at Black churches? It's a regular occurrence, believe me. I'm afraid that the tax issue falls along racial lines more than religious ones. Politically active Black churches are largely concerned with social justice issues. "Evangelicals" (read Fundamentalist) are largely concerned with "cultural" issues like abortion rights and banning Harry Potter books. Most Fundamentalist issues require legislation while social justice issues often need to be addressed with programs that would require money and, possibly, tax increases. I don't know why Fundamentalist get in such a lather about taxes, especially considering the Scriptures you've pointed out, and considering the fact that they're supposed to help the less fortunate.

I think you are confusing Christians with Republicans. Christians pay their taxes and obey the laws of the land as long as they do not oppose the Bible. They oppose/complain about Democrats because of moral reasons - Pro abortion and pro gay marriage. Our God does not expect us to meekly allow these abominations.

Speaking personally only for now here(USA); the Democrats and Republicians fall in the same boat on the point. They both seem to go by 'majority rules' not 'purity rules'.

I don't think the 60% of the taxes the romans took in went to senatorial "overhead" but who knows. I pay my taxes, but I'd gladly pay less of them especially knowing that so much of the money that comes in is wasted.

Judy,
God commanded Adam "Six days shalt thou work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest."

Our "God-given rights" are established by the commands of God.

"Thou shalt not kill" establishes the right to life.
"Thou shalt not steal" . . . the right to private property ownership
"Thou shalt not bear false witness" . . . the right to a fair trial.

The command "work six days . . ." establishes my right to unencumbered access to both commerce and industry free of governmental impedance, infringement or taxation.

Did God "see fit" to put Adolf Hitler in power? Then (according to you) we violated God's decision by toppling him.

Did God "see fit" to put Hirohito and Tojo in power in Japan?

What about the Caesars that persecuted and killed Christians and Jews?

What about Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao Tse Tung?

"There is no authority except by God" Unless an authority follows the prerequisite of the word of God, he has no authority.

We only owe allegiance to those "authorities" who are in alignment with God's Word.

And the verse you pasted in is saying exactly that!

You just don't know what it says because you haven't bothered to learn the original language.

Go become a Berean and come back.
