A misguided interpretation of their faith, apparently.
It's like the story about the man trapped on his roof in a flood. People came by in a rowboat, but he refused to join them, said his faith would save him. Then a man came by in a rubber raft, but again the man waved him off and said his faith alone would save him. The the National Guard came by with a helicopter as the water continued to rise, but even then the man refused to leave, insisting his God would save him. Ultimately, he drowned. When he arrived at the Pearly Gates, he demanded to see the Lord and wanted to know why He hadn't rescued him. The Lord answered, "Precious child, I did try to save you! I sent you a boat, a raft and a helicopter!"

Some religions do not believe the illness is real nor that man has to suffer from this illusion. I am a little shocked at the negative comments from Christians. Isn't this what Jesus did?Didn't He instruct the apostles to go and heal the sick? Jesus told them if they just had the faith the size of a mustard seed they could move mountains. It would seem prudent to check these religions out before condemning them. I personally go to doctors when I'm sick, but I'll acknowledge there are documented cases where these religions have healed. Its not a case of parents refusing to get help for their children, but rather selecting a different method than medical. These religions do not practice faith healings. They perform spiritual healings. Big difference.

I know the Jehovahs Witness does not believe in blood transfusion. But the state can intervene if the cause comes under 4 categories.
I guess for you to understand you would need to research the web.
I agree with you that as a parent I would let the doctors do what they can to save my loved one.

Christian Science does not rely on conventional medicine but holds that illness--and eventually even death itself--can be healed through prayer and growing closer to God. This belief extends to the possibility of healing any kind of disharmony, not just illness. Christian Scientists see sin, disease, and death as illusions resulting from a false sense of separation from God. They believe that healing is accomplished when one's understanding of God grows. This may include a better understanding of one's perfection as the image and likeness of God.

I think most of those examples are of some of the more cult-like christian denominations, not mainstream. I understand their belief is that god will heal their children and if they die it's god's will. These parents have been brought up on charges of negligence, abuse, and sometimes manslaughter.

This is something I don't understand either. I would have thought that being a parent would supersede any religious belief. I cannot comprehend not putting your child's needs before any religious belief. I guess the parents that do that think more about themselves than their child.

alot of people believe in faith healing. But the gift of healing died out when the apostles died out. However the true church of Jesus Christ had to be restored through a present prophet, Joseph Smith. Now we have the gift of healing again.
