I have a miniature schnauzer who has skin issues. I switched her from Science Diet to another brand which I actually like very much (Dick Van Patten's Potato and Fish). And, gave her carrots instead of regular treats. So, I have been giving her baby carrots as treats - she has been licking nonstop on her legs and feet. I stopped giving here the carrots and she has almost stopped licking all together. I don't know if it's becasue of the carrots but that's the only thing I stopped giving her and now she's not licking. Does anyone know if the carrots could have been the culprit? We've always used carrots as treats with our other dogs because they're healthy. Just curious...

Maybe she has a slight allergy. Try something else. My dogs LOVE tomatoes and snap peas.
I just looked at some of our dog treats... they contain carrots.... it seems to just be your dog. Try something else! My doggies love apples as well.
What are your poochies skin issues? My min pin had dry flakey skin. After speaking with the vet we started giving her Derm Caps Liquid on her food. She now has a beautiful healthy coat.

I get it from the vet. If you get it, get the liquid kind.... the dogs LOVE it on their food!

i also have a mini schnauzer and her favorite thing to munch on is carrots! Carrots are healthy for dogs and are a great treat for them. I doubt it was the carrot that gave your dog a rash, but then again it coud have just been allergic. Different dogs, no matter the breed, have different allergies.

Carrots, as are most veggies, are fine for dogs. I doubt the carrots are the culprit with the licking. As one answerer said, dog are mostly allergic to proteins. Licking on the legs and feet can be a sign of a contact allergen.

Most often dogs are allergic to proteins, but they can be allergice to any ingredient in their diet. It seems you've answered your own question--if she if fine on the new diet without the carrots, then try green beans for a snack instead!

People who feed raw, don't recommend any root veggies for dogs with severe allergies.
I do feed carrots, but not in excess.
