Have answered many questions but this is my first "asking".
There is a poem from a dogs view after living his life, and he is speaking to his human friend. It's different than most dealing with pet loss poems. Some of the lines go something like this: "I now sleep outside your window because I can no longer be with you". "My paws are still and no longer run". "It's ok to miss me but keep a place open in your heart....and soon a new friend will come along that you will love as much as you loved me." It's bittersweet and I can't find it anywhere. Hope someone will recognize some of the words and title of the poem. Thanks everyone! Glen

Hard to select a "best" answer at the moment. This has been exh ustive for me since I myself have been fighting liver failure. Most poems are meant to soften the loss ,however, this one pulled out the hurt and feelings of many losses over the years that I never fully grieved from. I thought of it, held my Border Collie and cried for two days. Funny thing, A 52 year old man dribbling like a baby. Currently I write short stories on the humor in life and this poem,or collection of words will be located. Thank you all. I'll choose a best answer in a few days. Glen

I have seen the poem you are speaking of but don't know the name, I agree with the others that it is possibly on the rainbow bridge site.

My friend at work just had to put her best friend Buster down after 17 years together and she was distraught thinking she might be doing it too soon, but Buster was very feeble and couldn't eat much so she did it just when she needed to. I found this poem on a scrapbook site:

From Your Best Friend
Author: Unknown
You’re giving me a special gift, so sorrowfully endowed,
And through these last few cherished days,
Your courage makes me proud.
But real love is knowing when your best friend is in pain,
And understanding earthly acts will only be in vain.
So looking deep into your eyes, beyond into your soul,
I see in you the magic that will once more make me whole.
The strength that you possess is why I look to you today,
To do this thing that must be done, for it’s the only way.
That strength is why I followed you, and chose you as my friend,
And why I’ve loved you all these years
…my partner ‘til the end
Please understand just what this gift you’re giving means to me,
It gives me back the strength I’ve lost and all my dignity.
You take a stand on my behalf, for that is what friends do.
And know that what you do is right, for I believe it too.
So one last time I breathe your scent and through your hand I feel,
The courage that’s within you to grant me this appeal.
Cut the leash that holds me here dear friend, so that I can run,
Once more a strong and steady dog, my pain and struggle done.
And don’t despair my passing, I won’t be far away,
Forever here within your heart, and memory I will stay.
I’ll be there watching over you, your forever faithful friend,
And in your memories I will run,
…a young dog once again.

Darn you! Searching many sites for your poem, I've also been reduced to a blubbering fool. My (Vet estimated) 15 year old is laying here at my feet, and I'm remembering the other 'gracious elders' I've had along the years.

Sorry I couldn't find what you were specifically looking for.

I'm also sorry that you're having the liver problems you're having. Maybe you can take the gist of the lines you're thinking of and flesh it out... since you're a writer, maybe these fragments are things you, yourself, thought of???

To all the dogs we've loved before!

I am sorry for your loss. My male chia/pom as hit by a car 2 yrs. ago this month and I still cry over him..Here is one of the poems I liked..
On Angels Wings.
Come into my arms little one
There is naught for you to fear
we'll speed up to the heavens
where are master waits so near.
It is time to go my precious one
no time to think twice
on guilded wings I'll fly you
to a place called paradise.
You were loaned to your master on earth
to teach them how to love
and they will carry on your legacy
and rejoice to God above.
Do not worry about them little one
for they will be alright
For I will come sometime for them
in the stillness of the night.
And gently I will guide them
to you in this beautiful place
where you will run and greet them
and rain kisses upon their face.
Yes I know they are grieving
but in their hearts they'll never be alone
so come into my arms little one
it's time for you to go home.

Not what you're looking for, but here:

A Dog for Jesus
(Where dogs go when they die)

I wish someone had given Jesus a dog.
As loyal and loving as mine.
To sleep by His manger and gaze in His eyes
And adore Him for being divine.

As our Lord grew to manhood His faithful dog,
Would have followed Him all through the day.
While He preached to the crowds and made the sick well
And knelt in the garden to pray.
It is sad to remember that Christ went away.
To face death alone and apart.
With no tender dog following close behind,
To comfort its Master's Heart.
And when Jesus rose on that Easter morn,
How happy He would have been,
As His dog kissed His hand and barked it's delight,
For The One who died for all men.

Well, the Lord has a dog now, I just sent Him mine,
The old pal so dear to me.
And I smile through my tears on this first day alone,
Knowing they're in eternity.
Day after day, the whole day through,
Wherever my road inclined,
Four feet said, "Wait, I'm coming with you!"
And trotted along behind.

go to Rainbow Bridge, it's a pet loss support group online, and the poem is called the rainbow bridge.
I recently lost a pup, and I remember seeing the poem here, that someone was nice enough to share with someone else that lost a pet.

I hope this helps you.
I am sorry for your loss.

Have you heard this one? Bless you=( Heaven's Doggy-Door
My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The Doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.

The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled him in my arms.
Were of his younger, puppy years,
And Oh!...his many charms.

Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart that's filled with tears
Remembering our joy-filled days.

But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
God also loves our canine friends,
He's installed a 'doggy-door"!
