Do you really imagine I *don't* have direct spiritual experiences with Freyr, Odhinn, and Thor?
Are you so arrogant as to think my practice of the ancient ways does NOT improve my life?
Why else would I be doing this? Rebellion? Puh-leeese.
I've been both, you know, and several other religions besides. While heathenry and xianity incorporate vastly different ideas about what religion is and what deity does---we don't have a cosmic Santa Claus and don't need redemption---your constant assertions that what I believe "isn't real" are ridiculous.
Why is it so hard for you to understand how real the Old Ways and Elder Godhs really are?

batgirl2good: can you read above a 4th grade level? Where exactly have I said ONLY my godhs are real? Unlike xianity . . . I don't need to be the One Right Way™ . . . only the way of my Folk.
Chieko: I *am* ranting at the xians who tell me this, darling. You're all right here.
Oh, and "false gods" responders one, two, and I think three . . . says who? YOUR god? Bit convenient, wouldn't you say? :-P

lightningelemental! THANK you!
That's what I've been trying to get at, but you're so much more succinct and scholarly about it, and I deeply appreciate it . . . yes, absolutely, religion = myth, but myth ≠ (does NOT equal) "false." There's literal, factual, historical, scientific truth and then there's powerful, cultural, metaphorical, spiritual truth. Trying to turn one into the other causes all sorts of problems . . . trying to turn the latter *into* the former shortchanges those who do so . . . like trading a beautiful poem for a crescent wrench and a lump of coal! :-)

Please, sir. Calm your temper. Maybe one day they will realise that their beliefs are not necessarily shared by others.
To me, all Gods of all kinds are real, as they exist. They exist in the beliefs of the people who believe in them. As I respect all people, I respect that their truths are different from mine, and therefore accept their God, Gods or Godesses.
I find that it is quite unlikely that anybody is going to learn a different truth. Every time a question is posted, it is argued by those who do not share that particular belief. Is an argument not a form of ignorance and closed-mindedness?
This is my belief taking shape. I believe that I must rid myself of things like closed-mindedness. This is the reason why I accept and love all people.
May the Elder Gods go with you, along with peace, throughout your life.

Their idea that everyone else's Gods are myths comes from their misinformed notion of what a "myth" is. . .
Among academics, a myth is simply a sacred narrative about the origins of the world. A myth is believed to be true by the people (culture) from which it came because religious or spiritual significance is attached to it. When used by academics, the term is not meant to imply that the sacred narrative is either true or false. I'll never forget what one Anthropology professor said in a lecture: "One man's myth is another man's religion." The professor went on to explain that the use of the term outside of academica had taken on the implication that the religious narratives of a culture other than your own is considered mythology; therefore untrue; but that your own culture's sacred narratives would not be considered mythology, and therefore, true. Because of this usage (outside of academia) many people take offense when the religious narratives they believe to be true are called myths. But strictly speaking, a myth is simply the academic term used to describe the sacred narratives of a given culture.

Why can't they leave you alone? There is no reason to believe that their gods are any more true than yours... and there is a difference between "fact" and "spiritual truth"

All the Christians *I* know have no direct experience of their god, and therefore they believe no one else does....
If you say you have direct experience, they say it's demons or other stuff......
So, obviously, their god does not exist, or doesn't bother with them.

I have an update for all your books.. how about?: "hey wake up little kiddies...lets stop talking about flying pigs and walking spoons and put our feet on the ground. how about we take a look around us and see how we are twisting this world apart and how we are leaving it for the next generations. Love and tolerance of all is the key. War has been over for awhile now, it's just that some of us don't know it yet." "Love is the key"
Jews/Muslims/Christians have all changed their book many times throughout the centuries to adjust and survive in changing economical, political, and social times. Like many other religions, including the Muslims, throughout the world and time. Everyone with a college education can begin to see that with just a little reading.
It is the traits & beliefs that you have inherited from past generations that has lead us to this global confused state of mind. The fog is clearing. If you take the world right now for example. There are 6 Billion people; can you imagine that, we'll try again 6 Billion. Maybe you can't grasp that concept, but we'll go on. There are 300 Million people in the U.S.. Now who thinks all the U.S. citizens are of one track-minded 50's life-style thinking? Not to many, we are all different and should be tolerant of each others life style's etc... Like it or not, there are mormons, white's, blacks, mexican's, catholics, jews, gays, short & tall people, fat and skinny, old & kids, hermits, partners, and polygamists; and there are good willed people and ill willed people in all catagories. We can't and should not; want to try to get rid of them all, lets live with each other, be tolerant, and mind our business.. hehehe...
It's not the forces of odin, christians or the muslims that will win this 3rd world war, and final war I might add. It is the human race who will save and protect freedom and this world..., or parish completely forever..., soon.

Edit: Is it just me, or are a lot of these people missing the point? I think you asked for a reason, didn't you...? (I'd give one, but I don't think your gods are false.)
