The Church doesn't "ban" any movies, but asks you at your bi-annual (formerly annual) temple-recommend interview if you associate with any efforts that are contrary to the Church's purpose.
Many members interpret this to include all information that is critical of the Church's authenticity, which is why many LDS people won't open the links that I post.

Never heard of it. The Church doesn't "ban" movies. They "suggest" that we don't see rated R movies. It's our choice.
I don't generally watch R movies. I did see "Passion of the Christ" once because of the content. We didn't buy that one - way too graphic but a Crucifixion wasn't a fun time.

The Church doesn't choose what members can and can't watch. We are able to choose for ourselves.

No. I know members that have seen it and some that feel it is a waste of time to see it.
