Slice. I usually make tuna cheese melt sandwiches. spread mayo on the bread, lay salad and tomato slices and then place sliced cheese on the top. Put it into the toaster oven. Another favourite is just slice cheese on bread, then tomato and veg and top with slice cheese again. Then toast in the toaster oven. Its yummy!!!! It would be very difficult to clean the oven if we use grated cheese. They keep dropping out. Also, if you don't toast your sandwich, they will drop out more . Grated cheese will also melt and drp all over the place but sliced cheese is neater after toasting. Especially mozarella. Have fun...!!!! Why are you not spunning fairy tales anymore? I love them....

I like to grate some of the firmer cheeses so that I can distribute them better over the bread for good melting. I slice the softer cheeses as thick as I want them.

I love cheese sandwiches a lot! It depends- most times I have sliced cheese and if on a bun I might grate it and top it up with tomatoes or lettuce.
Tips for different sandwiches:
Try creamed cheese with honey
Try normal triangle cheese spread with jam ( plus all the salad stuff for a savoury variation- even Branston pickles on top.)
Bulgarian cheese with a sprig of rosemary and any other topping.
Melted greek cheese with tomatoes and olives.

No one wants pure cheese, but a cheese hoagie with two or three different cheeses, a grilled cheese, or openfaced pizza with cheese, I love it!! Sometimes I use grated with the grilled if I use more than one cheese, the rest is sliced except for the pizza.
If you make the cheese hoagie, mayo, lettuce, tomato and peppers are a must. A little bit of oregano salt and pepper, yum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would depend on the sandwich. On bread I would use sliced. In a tortilla wrap it would be better with grated. Happy eating!

I only eat Kraft slices. At my house shreds are for toppings and slices are for sandwiches. We eat alot of cheese toast and grilled cheese. mmmmmmm good!
