My A.C. clutch has broken. I have found a replacement pulley at autozone. The a.c. wont work, but I could still drive my car. How much trouble would it be to take out the compressor, and replace it with just the pulley, and how much should I expect to pay if I cant do it?

unfortunately, a/c is standard on all taurus' the only way to repair it is to replace the clutch, just keep in mind that just replacing the clutch disc is not enough, the pulley and the field coil has to be replaced, the compressor has to be removed to accomplish this correctly, some technicians claim to be able to do this without removing the compressor, but this can damage the compressor.

remove the clutch plate by loosening the bolt in the front of the compressor, then there is a snap ring that holds the pulley on. you shouldnt have to remove the compressor

replace the two and be finished with it. do you be attentive to what led to the outdated compressor shaft to interrupt? If it had v-belts could have been too tight, or misalignment. you do no longer see that too often and that i in many cases attempt to determine what could have led to it in the 1st place. basically a thought. reliable luck on the upkeep.
