Is it worth living on the military base?

Will I like the area as a female -no kids yet.

Is it safe to exersize at a highschool track or go jogging around neighborhoods alone during day time there?

Tell me all you can.

The base is fine but when you go off base it gets tricky.

1. The housing costs in the area are high unless you are coming from the Northeast or the West Coast then its not much of a shock. Average home price is $400k and average rent (2br 2ba - $1500 mnth). You would have to travel 45 min - 1 hr to find cheaper living.

2. Some areas around the base are not safe. Don't bother using any of the facilities at Meade High School - rough place. If you want a safer track head over to Columbia, MD or over to Severna Park, MD - both are about 15 min drive from the base.

3. Social life - not the greatest around the base - better to travel to Columbia, MD or Annapolis (20 min drive) or into D.C..

4. Shopping/ Restaurants - good shopping close by - Arundel Mills Mall is minutes away. Columbia, MD also has good shopping and restaurants. Laurel, MD (10 min) has decent shopping and restaurants.

GOOD LUCK AND WELCOME TO MARY LAND.

By all means live on the base. Housing costs in the D.C. area can make a grown person weep. Daytime jogging off-base is no problem. At night you might want to take a buddy with you and a little pepper spray just in case.

depends.. the housing is newer, mostly and all gone PPV. what the wait list is will depend on your sponsor's paygrade and BR entitlement: no kids equals a 2 BR. the wait list for us (Field Grade O, no kids) was 3-6 months. we opted to move in town(Columbia). The Jogging trail around the golf course on base is supposedly nice. There is also a VERY nice walking path/jogging trail around Wylde lake in Columbia, across the street from where we live.

there is no longer plenty rapidly in feet. Meade... actual around the nook is Arundel generators Mall, that's a extensive procuring complicated. you would be centrally placed between D.C. and Baltimore the place there's a set of historic landmarks and museums. Annapolis is a few a million/2 hour away with great water oriented activities. good success in case you may pass!

There is a lot of area for running right on base. When we lived there my husband was training for a marathon and ran on paths on base almost exclusively.
