Have you ever heard a wolf howling at the moon? "ow-ow-ow-ah-oooooo!" It's kinda based on that. Think about those old cartoons, when a pretty female character would walk by one of the male characters, and his jaw would drop to the ground, his eyes bug out, and he'd whistle "wo-woooo!" That's the sound that is generally known as a wolf whistle.

The term is also linked to the term wolf, which can refer to the type of man who is always chasing pretty young ladies with wicked intent (like the Big Bad Wolf tricking Little Red Riding Hood or a wolf in sheep's clothing). If the guy is this kind of "wolf", and whistles at you, then it's a "wolf whistle."

a wolf whistle is like that whistle that you always hear in the movies or in shows. it basically means he was either hitting on you or checking you out. other kinds of whistles? uhmm..yea im sure there are. but a wolf whistle is an important one to know.

I was wolf-whistled at last week and when I turned round to see who it came from I saw a boy who couldn't have been more than 13. If it had been from a man I'd have appreciated it much more, even more so if it had come from a woman. I learned to wolf-whistle when I was 11, but I find it's easier to use forefinger and thumb rather than four fingers.

the term refers to an old slang for an aggressive male, aka a wolf. While some women see this as a negative, others see it as a compliment of sorts. How you see it depends on your own self image ..if you know you look good you may not mind the occasional whistle.

The term "wolf whistle" came from the 1920, early 1930's. Guys that were womanizers (players, in today's language) were called wolves. They would whistle at girls that they thought were attractive.

Wolf whistle just means that he was checking you out so to speak and likes what he saw. They refer to it as "wolf whistle" not because wolfs actually whistle like that, but they do howl in a similar tone. Haven't you ever seen that looney tunes cartoon that has the wolf in it that falls in love and starts to howl and his heart starts beating out of his chest? Yea....that is a wolf whistle.

he was just checking you out and letting you know that he liked what he saw. its a wolf whistle because of a cartoon character that was a wolf and he whistled in the cartoon at a lady that looked good to him whils she was singing. that's all nothing complicated.
