It is "located" within the brain. It can be altered with drugs or oxygen deprivation and damaged/destroyed with a head injury.

Consciousness doesn't truly have a physical location, because it is a process of information, not a physical object. However, those processes are performed by the brain, so in a sense you can say that it is "located" there.

If we built a computer that mimicked human thought - - we would have no idea how to give that computer the awareness that it was doing so. Although the computer's consciousness, or programming, is easily created, creation of awareness, however, remains ephemeral.

Distinct from the issue of consciousness, there is no scientific explanation for awareness. Science can explain the physical constructs associated with different levels of consciousness. However, no scientific explanation exists that can account for our awareness during our varying states of consciousness. Physical constructs controlling consciousness exist within the brain. No physical constructs creating awareness - - or qualia - - have yet been discovered.

@ Anyone who gave me a thumbs down should check their facts. My post is scientifically correct.

It cross-references with the brain since that is the seat of consciousness, but is non-material. Think of it as comparable to a hologram.

Your consciousness is located around your body attached by your aura and astral threads. It is important to know that because we can become affected by other peoples energy and their energy vampiring or sharing.

We are well past the time when we believed the mind and body were wholly separate entities. What was once said to be the soul is now better explained as the brain itself.
