I'm so nervous, I know I need to take him to a vet but I just noticed. I thought dogs lose their teeth when they are much younger. He is a chihuahua. Thanks for reading.

By 2 years of age he should have had all his adult teeth for a long time, so any loose teeth are a problem.
Could've been an injury causing this, but more likely to be gum disease. This usually occurs in older animals, but chihuahuas often don't have great teeth. Get him looked at by a vet, if he's got gum disease live gingivitis, or other dental problems, you don't want it affecting his other teeth.

No it is not normal. Small dogs will lose their teeth but at a much older age, in general.
The vet will determine if the teeth need to be pulled or can be saved, and hopefully figure out the cause.
This suggestion may not be necessary now, but in the future you should at least weekly check out your dog's teeth, mouth, breath, eyes, ears, coat, skin etc. looking for anything abnormal.
You should also be able to detect a health problem by his body language, movements, and expression.
BTW, if your dog loses a few teeth but is otw healthy, it's not a big deal.
BTW2, a bad tooth infection can spread into the dog's bloodstream and cause life threatening sickness.

You're right on both counts: You should get your dog to your vet, and you you are correct that dogs lose their baby teeth when they're still puppies. It's a good idea to brush and check your dog's teeth weekly, along with cleaning his ears, trimming his nails if necessary, and and just generally looking him over for any items of concern, changes, etc.. I find that it helps me to pick a day of week when I usually do this, allowing it to become routine. If you're not sure how to do any of these things, your vet should be glad to show you.

They lose baby teeth at 3-6 months, not 2 years. It is probably dental/gum disease, common in small dogs or an injury. He needs a vet ASAP.

if there is a lot of buildup on the teeth(yellow) it can push into the gums and loosen the teeth. loose teeth will make chewing uncomfortable for the dog and can lead to other health issues..please schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

I've never heard of dogs losing teeth nor have any of my dogs lost theirs. Better take him to the vet.

No, it's not normal at all. That is a sign that the roots of the teeth are deteriorating as well as possibly the jaw bone. He needs medical attention asap.

Call animal rescue groups (get the numbers from the vets and pet stores) there may be a group that deals specifically with small breeds. You can even contact breeders (American Kennel Club) and ask over the phone what they think.

She shouldn't have baby teeth anymore, so she's probably permenantly losing them. I would take her to the vet to see why this is happening. You might want to invest on some doggy toothpaste & toothbrush (you can buy at vets or petstores) if you haven't already.

Are you sure that they are not his adult teeth. He should of lost his baby teeth quit a while back. Do you feed canned food? I tell people to try to use hard food unless they can't chew it. It's important for their teeth and gums.
