Of Course Nikon D80.
Sony is excellent too but it cannot be a rival of either the brand Nikon or the model D80 yet.

When Konica-Minolta stopped camera production in 2006 Sony bought their camera line. So the Sony is really a Minolta MAXXUM re-badged. Sony also acquired Minolta's R&D and will likely be offering more cameras that Minolta had in development.
Since you're investigating cameras you may as well look at the latest Pentax - the K10D. It has 10mp, Image Stabilization built into the body and accepts all of the Pentax K-mount lenses.

D80.
-- Bigger, more comfortable grip
-- Takes all Nikon AF lenses including classic oldies (will save you big $$$)
-- Has AUTO ISO (most important feature on any camera)
-- Has topside info readout
-- Has great high ISO performance (second most important feature)
Hope this helps.

You should get the PENTAX Optio W30. It has TONS of features, VERY good picture quality, its sleek & stylish. And to add to all that, its waterproof! You can see the camera here: http://www.pentaximaging.com/products/product_details/digital_camera--Optio_W30/reqID--9587364/subsection--optio
I have had the PENTAX Optio W10 (a slighty older version) for a few years now and I absolutely LOVE it!
