She can apply for the Citibank card. It's not a problem to have two cards from the same issuer.
As to whether or not she will be accepted, it depends on her credit score, and income.
But, it doesn't hurt (much) to apply. (it will lower her credit score by 5 points to put the application in for the new card).
I hope that helps

Washington Mutual also known as WaMu is not related to Citibank.
You can TRY to correct all you want Echo but you will be wrong. Citibank aquired Washington Mutual FINANCE a SUBSIDIARY of Washington Mutual BANK (see press release from Citigroup 11/23/2003)
Previous to their 2005 acquistion of Providian, Washington Mutual Bank had no credit card business.
Also care to explain why if Citibank bought WaMu in 2003, WaMu would buy Providian in 2005? They wouldn't, Citibank would have bought Providian directly

These days many women don't take the last name of their spouse so if you live at the same address then being an authorized user on one or more of his accounts will probably help you. Adding you won't do a thing to or for his credit, you would be the only one to benefit from it.

Washington Mutual is related to Providian not Citibank! Most banks will let you have more than one line of credit as long as they are different from one another. For example, one is a rewards card and another regular line of credit. Your wife will get the second credit card issued to her as long as she meeting the credit requirements of that particular credit institution.

I think Michael K's answer was the best and hottotrot1 is correct in saying Citi won't be concerned if someone has more than one account with them, fee or no fee
I just wanted to correct those who think WaMu is not affiliated with Citi.
Citi purchased WaMu in 2004 (and backs WaMu branded credit cards).
WaMu purchased Providian in 2005.

Yes, I used to work for DiscoverCard and you may have usually up to 3 or more seperate accounts through them... as a primary. You can be on as amny accounts as you want as an authorized buyer. I'm sure it's similar with other credit card issuers.

WAMU does not belong to Citi bank.
You can have as many credit cards from as many banks as you want.
You can also have as many credit card accounts from the same bank as they will give you.

it would show up as a second credit card but in her name . they prescreen so i dont think they will deny it. it is a second account but will carry only your wifes name and will give you a larger line of credit to work with . my wife and i have seperate card accounts and joint accounts and when combined makes for a good size line of credit...

I'm sure Citibank won't be too concerned about your wife having two cards from them, especially if there are annual fees involved.
