and now we dont do that anymore, example,it was ok to have slaves, we dont do that, it was ok to stone people to death, in america we dont do that, women were not ordained or became ministers, but today they are, they used to sacrifice lambs for god, today we dont do that, who decides what we do and dont do

Hi and good morning MM.....First of all, you need to remember that the laws back then and the peoples cultures were quite different than of today, although in some Middle East countries some of their laws have not changed thru the centuries. Their laws weren't guidlelines from the 'Holy Bible' but their own laws of the land so do speak. God didn't believe in slavery. Why do you think He helped Moses and His people. Jesus didn't condone 'stoning' why do you think He stopped the people from stoning Mary Magdelene? This was the laws of the land, not the laws of the Bible. Now "yes' God did perhaps have His people sacrifice lambs, this was maybe like an offering to God but in today's world we offer money which was scarce in the Biblical times. God wrote down His 'Ten Commandments' for His children to obey in regards to have good morals and ethics in life. To make all of us a better person and to worship our 'Father'. One has to realize that what occured back in Biblical times will change through the sands of time. Cultures change, laws change, people change and with it, the Bible. One must take the Bible and read it with the conception of today's world. There are Gods laws and then there is the laws of man. Society had taken the 'laws of God' and made their laws for us to obey to where there would be order in the land. We don't sacrifice due to the man made laws. This would also include 'stoning' for punishment. We use to stone the 'wicked' but society has changed and with it the laws have changed. In America they did use to stone people to death during the 1600's. Now of course they don't. You need to adjust the Bible with today's era. A lot of the laws and rules were due to the Roman Empire back then so you have to take that into consideration. And because we live in a society today that has changed in views, laws and cultures. Hope this has helped. Have a wonderful day!

I'm Sorry! I know that the "Reverends Al & Jessie" want U to Believe that they "Single Handedly Eliminated Slavery", but the Facts tell Us that there are Many Countries Today that Still "Traffic in Human Flesh"!!! U know, like our New Best Friends CHINA!!! Thanks for "Hookin Us Up there B.C."!!! I've Always Wondered why the "Revs." don't go to Other "Slave Countries" & Preach Hells' Fire & Brimstone to those Governments like they Still do here??? We Still Execute Criminals & it is Right to do so!!! Gods' Word tells Us that Women are Not to teach "Mature Men", rather a much more Important task of Teaching the Children so that when they "Grow Up" they will be "Acceptable to Society"!!! As Christ is a "New Covenant" with not just the Jews, but the "Whole World", there is No Need for "Animal Sacrifices" any more!!! Christ was the Perfect Sacrifice, once & for All!!!God has given Us "Direction" for both our Spiritual lives & Physical lives for Our Well Being. Some of these things as a result of "Mans Technological Advances" no longer need to be Observed in the Physical Realm. Most in the Spiritual Realm however are Just as valid when "Issued" as they are Today!!! As has Always been the case, Mans "Free Will" makes the "Decisions" Personally!!! John

I would like to think that eventually the humanity and compassion in all of us eventually wins out and our conscious gets us to do the "right thing."
Sacrificing lambs got thrown out when Jesus came and said he was the Law, that the Jewish Law didn't matter anymore, you just had to believe in God and in salvation through Jesus.
There is still slavery in the world, all over the place.
As far as women preaching, well scholars believe that women did have a major hand in spreading Christianity after Jesus died..it is only when they had to form together as an institution to survive in Roman society that they changed this - According to Roman beliefs and culture, women were to be inside the house, seen and not heard, mothers, etc. - not public. The men were public and were responsible for being great speakers with business acumen. So, they adopted things from Roman culture which were familiar to them - male leadership, etc.
So really, we are just getting back to something that was there in the beginning all along, as far as female leadership in the church is concerned anyways. Look for Paul talking about Junea in his letters in the NT, and read The Gospel of Mary Magdalene.

Hoo boy! A lot of stuff!
Like in the Old Testament, they didn't have wedding ceremonies. A man and a woman just "did the act" and that meant they were married, per Ruth and Boaz.
There were a LOT of dietary restrictions, not only against ham and shellfish, which we all know about. Somewhere in there, God told Moses the Israelites couldn't eat a calf that had been boiled in his mother's milk.
(Apparently that was considered a delicacy to their heathen neighbors and God didn't want them eating like heathen.)
From that they extrapolated it into not having any dairy product touch any meat product; they couldn't have eaten a cheeseburger even if they had a McDonalds in every desert.
Another one that is interesting is the blessing of friendships. In the days of the early church, apparently it was common for 2 friends to go to their congregation and have them bless the friendship. Too bad we lost that one.
