How about a prayer for patience on your part and understanding on his? Then suggest a 'cleaning date' for you BOTH to help move car parts and clean up the basement. After all, I am assuming you BOTH own the house so it is His basement as well as Yours? Maybe he can at least move things to one area and you can clean the rest if you have need of it.

Here's the "prayer" I would use it's called the GET THE CRAP OUTTA MY BASEMENT prayer--it goes like this
My DEAR HUSBAND:
If you do NOT remove your CAR PARTS from the basement THIS WEEKEND, I will just go down there on Sunday, take them out myself and call a junk man to come pick them up and haul every last INCH of them outta here.
Amen

No, then the car parts would be on the front lawn. I think a good old "Lord if he doesn't move the car parts how can I make sweet lovin?" prayer might do the trick...(As long as you say it loudly and within your husband's hearing):p

Tell hubby you need to clean the basement and if he doesn't remove the parts within a reasonable amount of time, you will remove the parts yourself and put them in the trash.

Penguin, you need to be innovative. With his car parts down there, you can clean them *and* the basement all at once. You can kill two .. cod .. with one bird.
All you need is a garden hose and an economy-size bucket of detergent.

Send him to the couch until it's clean. Having a head ache can do amazing things.
