Who do you think anesthetizes the patient that is on the operating table at 2 a.m.?

Of course anesthesiologists are on call. Larger hospitals will have 2 or 3 doctors on call to handle cases that run late, those that come in emergently, and the obstetric service. Some places have people stay in the hospital (especially if it is a facility that handles trauma), while others allow the doctor to stay at home until called.
