Yes. I also know some local people who still believe that. They're generally quite elderly, though. The idea is still out there:

Indeed, I heard Alan Simpson talking the other day (couple months back) about how the Simpson Mizoli (sp?) bill was supposedly creating the next level of national id card. And that was 20 years ago; it's gotten nowhere because people still fear this mark of the g/d beast crap. Sorry, it's just such an incredibly lame excuse to stand in the way of progress and yet America can't seem to get past it (that and the g/d bills that are all the same size and color to the utter consternation of blind people nationwide).

Oh, and thanks Kjelstad for the ROFL.

But now that these chips that can hold all your personal information on it...it DOES sound like the Mark 'cause eventually the only ones who will be able to buy anything are the ones who have that "Mark"...funny isn't it?

No, but call me crazy, but I think the mark of the beast should be at least as durable as a library card.

We're supposed to keep these things for life!?

The mark of the beast is in the Roman Catholic church, which will one day absorb all religions. They worship a man, in the stead of Christ, and their allegiance to him is made with the sign of the cross, taking the right hand, and touching the forehead first.

And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads

Personally, I think when they go to do it, if they'd just hit their forehead a bit harder, they might get a 'duh, what am I doing?' going on, and wake up. Only God, can do that waking however.

Nonsense.

Social Security cards were never the mark of the beast.

I guess the book as it reads is not good enough for you.

Do you really think the concept is beyond belief? Look at it this way, what if to "protect from Identity thief" you could take a implanted bar code. with all your info, med. records, bank accounts, etc. would that not be convenient? shopping with no cards, money, checks? still sound outrageous? the real question is if there is not a God, how did fishermen think this up 2100 years ago? So where do you want your bar code, hand/forehead?
