Hello,

My wife and I are weighing several names for our child. My surname is Jones, and we want to be different without being over the top. Here are some names we picked out. Let me know if you believe these names could be harmful for our child's potential career path.

For a boy:

Jamead
Tykel
Lyedeen
Rydell
Quan
Day'kwan
Malqued

For a girl:

Shadqueesh
Kydeera
Rytanna
Quadryina
Likeema
Kinyadta
Nildonna
Keisharda

I think most of these are over the top and/or very ethnic which may not be what you are looking for.

For a boy:

Jamead - sounds African to me.
Tykel - this does as well.
Lyedeen - doesn't appeal to me whatsoever
Rydell - this is actually a rarely used traditional name. Good choice.
Quan - I like this better than Day'kawn.
Day'kwan - don't like it.
Malqued - don't like it.

For a girl:

Shadqueesh - I wouldn't want this name.
Kydeera - THis one sounds nice, actually.
Rytanna - This one sounds nice too!
Quadryina - wouldn't want this name
Likeema - Don't like it.
Kinyadta - People would struggle to pronounce or spell.
Nildonna - this translates to be Not Donna. Doesn't make sense.
Keisharda - Sounds african, but a nice name.

I would not say the names you have listed could potentially be harmful to your child's future; however, I will say that racism very much exist in today's society. I purposely named my daughter Noelle Alexandria because I do not want for anyone to know her ethnicity based upon her name. Based upon the research I have done over the years, it has been proven that there are many people that will not hire individuals based on their name alone. Many potential employers did not make their decisions based upon experience, qualifications, education, etc. I think it is sad, but it is a reality that we must contend with. We cannot change others, but we can change the things we do as members of society.

We live in a new age, however i think we all know what you are refrencing to with this question.

I believe that you and your wife should choose a name that you are happy with - afterall do you really want your child working for an employer that would discriminate based on the name at the top of the resume?

I personally like Rydell for a boys name.
Congrats on the baby!

When a parent has the "my child can do no right" mentality, it can have a MAJOR negative effect on the child. This can cause the child to have horrible self-esteem, which in many cases is the reason for a multitude of other problems. Including but not limited to: Drug problems Alcohol problems Eating disorders Problems with the law Trouble establishing and maintaining relationships Depression The list goes on.

This is a joke right? First impressions are everything and the first impression is receiving the resume. Tell me you did not just take random letters from a scrabble board. Job and future I think the kid will have a hard time in school, heck they make fun of them if they do not have the correct jeans. Please reconsider for your child's sake, because they are the ones that will ultimately have to pay.

studies have shown that having an ethnic sounding or odd name can hurt ones job hunting abilities because of bias. Even if 90% of people are open minded the kid will be hurt by the few in positions of power who are discriminating.

Go with Bob Jones or Sue Jones

After you pick your child's name, write the entire name down. Then put President of the United States behind it. All of these names won't work.

There are lots of names out there that are unusual without sounding like someone made them up.

I like a lot of these but a couple are awfully difficult to figure out how to pronounce the name! I think with a last name that is relatively plain you can pick a different cool first name and it sounds good together. But try to pick one where someone can at least make a guess about how to pronounce it.

I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 10.... Come on you guys, it's your kid! Pick a name a be proud of it. Give the baby love and nurture their life, show them how to be a good person and the name won't matter. That's why I think you should pick a name you both like, not one that fits!! If you really can't think of a name on your own, how about Madars (mom and dad are really stupid)!

No it will not interfere with her future. You bring your child up correctly and you won't have to worry about what his or her name is. I have come across people with all sorts of names in my working life and NEVER have a I heard someone being held back because of their name.
