It's not "three days later" It's "on the third day."
For example, from the Book of Acts:
Act 10:37 you yourselves know the thing which took place throughout all Judea, starting from Galilee, after the baptism which John proclaimed.
Act 10:38 "{You know of} Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and {how} He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
Act 10:39 "We are witnesses of all the things He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They also put Him to death by hanging Him on a cross.
Act 10:40 "God raised Him up on the third day and granted that He become visible,
Act 10:41 not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen beforehand by God, {that is,} to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.
Act 10:42 "And He ordered us to preach to the people, and solemnly to testify that this is the One who has been appointed by God as Judge of the living and the dead.
Act 10:43 "Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins."
Act 10:44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message.
Godspeed.
Of course, it could be the Bible, and ALL of us here saying "on the third day," are wrong, and YOU are right.

According to Luke when Jesus was just about to ascend to heaven he said
luke 24:46
"So you see that scripture foretells the sufferings of the Messiah and his rising from the dead on the third day."
He said this after the event so it must have made sense. I think in this case Jesus regards the whole experience of suffering in the Passion as being "in the belly of the whale" (he refers to Jonah's time in the whale as a prophetic image of his suffering sacrifice elsewhere). So it could be considered 3 days, if one measures back to Gethsemane on Thursday night. Also Jewish day technically starts at sundown the night before I think.
Thursday late evening - Sunday morning; 2 1/2 days really
but 3 days on which light of the sun was in the sky and 3 nights.

another bit of twisted scripture by man.
doesn't it stand to reason that if scripture said Jesus was in the earth (tomb) 3 full days like jonas was in the belly of the whale that scripture is true -and- the celebration of Good Friday is the day that's wrong??????
The day Jesus was crucified was the preparation “of the passover,” in other words the day before the Passover Sabbath.
Now we know that He was resurrected by the early morning the following Sunday. For Jesus to spend 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth, He must have been crucified on a Wednesday and buried right at sunset.
This means, Jesus was in the grave Wednesday night, Thursday day, Thursday night, Friday day, Friday night, and Saturday day giving us exactly 3 days and 3 nights in which He was in the heart of the earth. He then resurrected exactly 72 hours after His burial sometime around sunset Saturday afternoon.
This would explain how that when the women came to the tomb before sunrise on Sunday morning that Jesus was already gone!
For this to be true, then the year of Jesus crucifixion would have to have Wednesday fall on the 14th day of Nisan. In A.D. 30, that is exactly what occurred thus neatly pinpointing the year of Jesus’ death.

Jesus rose on the third day. Now the meaning of this will escape you until it is revealed to you by God.There is a reason for everything that happens at an appointed time.
Many will say the world was created in 7 days and this is true and scriptural. Others will say that God is not finished with his creation yet, this also is true and scriptural.
Seek a greater truth than what can only be revealed to you only by your physical eyes.
The seventh day is "The day of the lord" it is the "Sabbath" and it is the "Lord's Rest" it is also the "Millennial Kingdom of Christ."
By faith we are in this "seventh day" but the literal day is yet to come and will be one thousand years.
Read the story of Jonah, Abraham's sacrifice, The resurrection of Lazrus, Consider the meaning of why Christ was in the grave three days and how this has a meaning today. There are many things that God can reveal to you when you allow his revelation in to your life. Revelation comes through faith and comes to those who love and seek a greater truth than that which is available to the flesh.
The Bible does not even infer that Christ was in the grave three full days but that he was in the grave three days.
It is important not to gag at a nat and swallow a camel.
the story holds a greater truth.

He wasn't bad at math. They counted time a little differently before we had calenders and what not to look at. What He said was that He would rise on the third day, not three days later.
Crucified on Friday (first day)
In the tomb Saturday (second day)
Rises again on Sunday (third day)

Friday equals one. Saturday is two. Sunday is three. If a person dies on a day, she/he is dead that day. Her/His death doesn't start the next day. It starts the day he died. Also, why do you even care? There are a lot more important things to discuss than that.

Are you really wanting to argue with the Bible? Although it was written by men, it was inspired by God! It isn't wrong, but really sometimes there are things in the Bible that if you want you can argue, but really, does it matter? He raised from the dead! That is pretty amazing and considering that was predicted several thousands of years before it happened......

No, Jesus never died on the cross so how could he rise?
Jesus survivded the crucifixion by appearing to be dead, and went to the east to escape Roman law and taught for 40 more years under the name Yuz Aseph.
The crucifixion is a myth created by the early Christian church to make him look like a god so they could gain followers. Just because this myth has been believed for 2000 years does not make it any more true today than it was at the time.

do you understand the Jewish method of keeping time during that time period??
it is using present day math to add a culture different method of time measurement...
the passover.....the day of atonement and /the day of preparation...the Sabbath....the first day of the week ....
some churches have misinterpret that Christ was in hell during that time frame...no he was asleep/ dead/resting on the Sabbath.....
punctuation....I say to you today that you shall be with me in paradise..... He was making a statement in the affirmative....with out punctuation it takes on a wrong meaning....
study the Bible ....

He rose on the morning of the third day, or you could say, end of the second day. One day with God is a thousand years. I guess that means he should be rising any time now.
