I am not Christian and I don't have an issue with it. It's only religios if you want it to be I suppose. For me its just taking a second out of your day to regroup and prepare. I know some people have issue with it, I was wondering if we had any. I've never met anyone who did. Just curious

No I know people out there do. I live in Dallas trust me I know all about that stupid story. I was just wondering the general concensus here.

Oh I never had a moment of silence as a little kid LOL No teacher was brave enough to enforce that.

I take issue with it simply because a daily moment of silence adds up to about 180 minutes, or three hours, of lost schooling yearly. School is for educating, not praying.
My tax dollars go to educate my children and others, and by mandating a moment of silence I am paying for opportunities lost.
There's no reason why people can't pray or reflect over the breakfast table. There is absolutely no need to take time from education to do this.

The only issue I have with it is these days the moment never actually lasts a minute. It's like people get tired of paying respects or reflecting after 10 seconds. It wasn't like that when I was a kid.

Actually, it always kind of irked me. I don't mind it after a tragedy or something--that's understandable. But for there to be a "moment of silence" set aside in the public schools is ridiculous. What is wrong with these people that they can’t just pray when they get home? It’s less about praying and more about putting your righteousness on display.

As an Atheist I have never had a problem with that.
To me a moment of silence is remembering someone or victims and showing respect -------not praying to a man in the sky.

There are those that believe they have no real communication with their God unless it is heard by other people.....Why? Because they have had that drummed into their head their whole life.
Even ten seconds of true silence in a deities name is better than ten minutes of self-gratifying shouting or even speaking at a deity.

I think you'd have to be kinda nuts to have an issue with that. A moment of silence shows respect, whether you pray in that moment or not.

For me, having a "moment of silence" is just a way to pay respects. It's not religious unless you make it a time for a short prayer.

I'm Interfaith and I don't. It leaves people to be open to whatever they do or pray in that moment of silence.
I think a moment of silence is reverential and essential and important in basic human ethics, it should be included in schools.

I cannot imagine what type of person it takes, to object to a moment of silence...what a sad and misguided person would have difficulty with that. Does he think this will help his atheist agenda? Is he afraid of Christians praying a silent prayer in the same room with him...are we that powerful? Who knew?
Since people are praying around him all the time,,does he object to people closing their eyes,,, while waiting in line somewhere..I got news!!! Christians pray everywhere, everyplace,,,all the time. If I see a young Mother stressed with her kids in a grocery store,,,I pray a silent prayer for her...Good luck on that one..

I do, only because it is taking away from the time a kid is learning.
It's obviously not for older kids, it's for little kids....have you ever tried to get a little kid to shush?
ALSO, what's the #1 punishment technique in the US these days? the time out.
Will you explain to the kindergartners why they are being punished?
Now, tack this in...
You're the mom whose kid is active, but not hyperactive. When they suspend him for giggling during the moment of silence, and tell you he needs ritalin, what do you do?
One more thing, now, watch the teacher....what does s/he do in the moment of silence? Bow his head in prayer? Now it's a STATE RUN prayer, because Johnny no-religion is gonna think teacher is doing what he's supposed to do.
Johnny and Jane don't have time to learn to read and now we have to have a 3 minute disclaimer to have 30 seconds of silence...THEN we have to punish the non-conforming kids...by then, you're talking 20 minutes not spent in a book.
