because the cultures and regions it is found prevalent in tend to treat their women like second class citizens? Aside from all the phucked up things that one religion represents, would you be disgusted by a religion solely based on that one reason?

Ok, honestly, I was referring to Islam.

I know that all Muslims are not terrorists but I feel the women in general are treated pretty shabbily (an understatement, actually).

Funny thing about religions within the last 1000 years, they've all found it necessary to declass females. Buddhist monks cannot be touched be a female. Women have not been allowed to hold positions in Western religions. Women USED to be prophets and instructors in Islam. Then, whatever women do, is to be despised. Women are dirty, stupid and undeserving.

Well, I'm a woman and I've been despised and disrespected by all religions, within the past 1000 years. Let 'em have the men, let 'em fight about it.

I'll bet Jesus would have disagreed, but what do I know? I'm a just a stupid, dirty woman.

I'm disgusted with all of them, and it seems reasonable, all things considered.

prevalent...you mean as in America? Where anywhere from 60 - 80% still affirm a belief in God?

Help me to see women treated as second class citizens. May not be paid the same as man (to which I believe is wrong), but denied vote, ability to own property, ability to divorce, are free to be beaten by their husbands because the law gives the husband the right, and must serve as subservient roles, (whether its one culture saying "cover all bu the eyes" or another culture saying "kill the baby, it was only a girl")...

Well....just how close is this religiously prevalent country to do so?

as for that...I'm not fond of a religion that says women are second class...but then again...I remember a lot about Jesus' ministry in how he approached women. ANYTHING but second class.

Religion tends to reflect the culture of the time. Christainty can be made to say that gay people should be stoned while the women work in the kitchen and the man semi-randomly invade heathen countries in the name of our lord.

Or it can bring about Quakers.

You need to privately hold contempt for other cultures, not their religion.

Yes I am disgusted with any religion that treats any human worse than any other human. we are all made of the same stuff...break it down, we are all the same chemically ( for the most part, not to offend those of us that are chemically imbalanced) It infuriates me when I hear of religions (including many sects of Christianity) who preach that women are unworthy to teach their particular brand of theology because they are not worthy...how so? your god or gods or God gave women brains too and God or god or gods are on a non-physical level anyway so gender has nothing to do with spirituality and WHO is worthy to teach it. Once again the lack of objectiveness and the far too literal interpretation of some of the religious teachings we are exposed to truly truly astound me with their ignorance and lack of motivation for increased knowledge. Of course women aren't worthy to teach religion, that would put us in charge of everything but the remote control, there has to be a line drawn somewhere eh?

I'd have to wonder what good it does YOU to hold contempt or be disgusted...unless you like those feelings??? It is certainly "OK" for you to believe anything you want to believe but why give a group you dislike the power to make you angry or experience other emotions you don't enjoy?

All religions preach tolerance and acceptance. Holding contempt for any other religion is wrong. I don't hold contempt for other faiths, I hold contempt for people that are so closed minded that they don't practice what their religion preaches. Nor, are they willing to learn how.

In doing so, you are promoting the very violence you would seek to stop. Education, not contempt might help bring understanding.

For a religion, yes, by all means. But don't judge individuals by their religion solely.

It's definitely not ok.

Your contempt should be loud and clear for all to hear. Religious respect is only afforded *between* religions.

Yes. That is why I don't like most religions.
Especially Christianity though. I think it is because Christians bring up arguments like this while they so easily forget that they are in the same boat.
