No, we do not "just talk to God." There are certain Arabic suras we recite after we recite the Al-Fatiha. After that, we select a random sura out of the 10 designated, and we recite that. After the salaat is complete, we pray about whatever we want in cupped hands. After finishing asking for prayuers, etc, you take that cupped hand and as if there is water in it, you "wash", more like you slide your hand over your face. You can pray for anyone, it doesn't matter.

The answer to all of your questions is really both. Muslims have 5 mandatory prayers everyday that have set words to them. Most of the words are statements of faith. When those prayers are finished... or at any other time during the day... Muslims speak with God in "duas." which would be similar to the way the Christians pray. When saying duas, one can pray for whatever one wishes.
Peace and Blessings,

Praying is one of the most important thing as a Muslim. I am sure we didn't pray the way you do.
To a Muslim, praying is the act of submission to God and worshiping Him. The basic method has been predetermined and we are reciting certain verses in the Quran during praying. There is a surah (verses) which is a must (Al Fatiha)and the others is free to choose.
Muslim pray five times a day which will takes us around 10 minutes each including the preparation.

There are two types of prayer.
There is salat --this is set and this is the 5 times a day prayer
Then there is du'a which is supplication and there are some traditional ones with set words but this is when we talk to God and ask for guidance or whatever.
Hope that helps.

They have set prayers that are mandatory to do 5 times a day at specific times.
They also have what they call "du'a" prayers, which are more similar to praying for something specific.

Not all Christians pray by just having a conversation with God. Some (like Catholics) do the Pharisee thing and repeat "prayers" like Hail Marys, the Rosary, etc.
I don't agree with praying in that manner, but some people who consider themselves Christians do it that way.

I think they have some Catholic type habits. I think it is better to share your thoughts with God instead of repeating something same every day.
