belief at all? I'm Catholic and when I hear that a child was murdered at the hands of his/her parents I tend to step back and just wonder, why?? How can a loving God allow this to happen? Why be born to just die?

Primo, I was always following that mindset,'it all happens for a reason'...but sometimes it just blows me away.

We cannot explain God's ways......or why He allows things to happen.

All I know is this: It all happens for a reason.....and I will continue to love & trust in Him alone.

He is not the reason for sin....we are

Edit:
Mama....I understand where you are coming from with this. Trying to figure out God's ways in our feeble human minds would be impossible.

No, it doesn't make me doubt my belief. The act of brutalizing a child is so purely evil that there must be something purely good.

The "why" when bad things happen is just unknowable sometimes. But when it involves human decisions, the "why" is that God gives us a choice. If He didn't we'd just be robots, under His control, not able to choose good or bad, not able to enjoy the fruits or suffer the consequences of our actions. Sadly, some people use this free will to brutalize others. It's times like that when I am glad God is a God of justice, not just mercy.

No.
This world is human. We make this world, we live in this world. There is not always divine reason for everything. Sometimes there is no reason at all. The world has too many crossing wires for every small detail to me life alteringly meaningful.
In other words, "Sh*t happens." It is awful. It breaks my heart as well. But no I don't doubt the divines. Why blame the Gods for human action? There is a ripple effect in ways I won't ever know. You just have to take the bad with the good in the world.

I know that God is good. Part of that goodness is His wise decision to give humans free will. That has to include the ability to choose the wrong path. Without that free will, we would be robots.

Bad things happen all the time, it's the result of bad choices much of the time. The good side of it could be that others see it and learn a lesson, or people step up to help in a disaster bringing unity and good will. For those that die, if they've made their choice for God, they're more than better off now, they're with their Lord.

Personal injury accidents (to self or loved ones) often wake people up to realize their need for God, that life isn't forever, they will die someday and it could be tomorrow. The ultimate end of life is death and judgement. God will do anything He can to give us opportunity to accept His grace and salvation. Sometimes that takes knocking us down to get us to see our need for Him.

God gave man a free will. He allows us to make our own decisions and thus determine our own destiny.

We don't know the reasons why bad things happen - why children are killed, or why hurricanes wipe out entire cities, or why a bridge collapsed and killed unsuspecting people on their commute home from work. But it's not for us to know. Everything that happens is part of a plan, and if you have true faith in God, you can't question it. You just have to believe that it will all be revealed one day.

The fact that crimes like this happen is not an indication that God is evil in any way. Instead, what it dramatically shows is just how far humanity has wandered away from God and His Will. It is certainly not God's Will that parents kill their children. He cannot step in and save these poor children because it is ALSO His Will that humanity have free will. At this point in time, we are free to follow Him ... or not.

This will drastically change very, very soon.

When I hear terrible things happening I realize that we have an adversary who is doing everything possible to separate us from God. And what saddens me the most is that satan rejoices every time we blame God for our misfortunes. Satan wants us to believe that God is unfair and unjust, so he creates disasters, instigates violence and even brings upon illness in order to achieve his purposes.
But we should know better. God created a wonderful world; perfect, without violence, illness or disasters. Satan introduced sin to this world and, for now, we must endure the consequences of sin.
Soon, all of this will end. God has promised a new world where only peace and happiness will reign.
That is why every time I hear of terrible things happening, it confirms the reasons why I love God even more. God is not the culprit of all our pain and suffering; it is satan who rejoices in hurting us. Why? satan hates God, and one way to hurt God would be to hurt God's children. The bible says that satan and his angels hate us so much that, if allowed, they would tare us up with their hands, but God is in control.
Soon we will have the world God always intended for us.

Two challenges was presented to God in the Garden of Eden. First, satan called God a lie, that mankind would not die if he ate from the tree. Second, satan question God's right to rule (He's not needed in mankind life). So, who do you think is the liar. Mankind is dying both physical and spiritual and they definitely can't rule their own life - the proof is on this site.

Most importantly, people tend to forget, God is not the ruler of this world, satan the devil is (1John 5:19). If you want to blame someone, blame him.

I think of where it says in Scripture that our life is but a breath. This life is only a very small part of what is in store for us. I believe that the difficulties and trials we face help us to grow, depend on God, and allow Him to transform us into who He wants us to be. The very dark trials show us how evil sin is, and why we would want to cling to all the things of God that are good. It's not easy, but He is always with us through everything. Peace.

Yes, I'm there with you, it makes me sick

I don't altogether stop believing as that would seem juvenile to me but for years I've struggled with this and imagine I will continue to ....

*edit* Crocoduck - for someone who doesn't believe in God you sound awful bitter towards a nonexistant being you are certain does not exist
