Dagwood made his sandwich with anything he found in the frig.
There was always roast beef, balogna, at least two types of cheese, corned beef, salami, mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, two slices of bread.
It would have also had any left over poultry, turkey at thanksgiving, to which he added stuffing, cranberry sauce, sliced yams, and pickles and olives.
Blonde always had a problem with having leftovers to make the food budget stretch because of those sandwiches.
Personally, I like the turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauch sandwich, but I leave out the yams, etc. I prefer to eat them on the side.
Dagwood's sandwiches would be about a foot and a half tall. My mouth just isn't that big. LOL! I make my sandwiches to be eaten.
Hope this helped.

Starting from the bottom:
Slice of toasted bread, 0ne inch thick (No wonder bread or similar)
mayonnaise
lettuce
slice of american cheese
slice of Virginia ham
fried egg
Catsup
Another slice of toasted bread, thinner than bottom, mayonnaise
Three slices of turkey breast
Slice of swiss cheese
Tomato slice
Mustard
Another slice of toast with mayo
4 strips of fried bacon
2 slices of provolone cheese
1 layer of Cheetos cheese curls
couple of slices of tomatoes
Salt and pepper
Top with another slice of toasted bread
You can make one extra layer with some canned sardines, but that is if you like sardines, then you'd have the look!
About the height, don't worry, you press carefully from top and enjoy!
