Do people ever think that they should research something more or does it matter at all.

Misconceptions cant just be made up so they must have a source.

I am thinking in this case that much comes from Catholics who didnt or dont really understand their faith.

The catholic church can be guilty of this because they baptise, give communion and then confirm kid who really dont know what is going on.

Then most people go to mass and dont understand what is happening.

i think the best answers tend to be from protestants who come back to the church because they tend to have a fuller perspective.

Anyone want to bet that for every sensible answer I get 10 stupid ones about the pope, mary, purgatory etc.

misconceptions come from years and years of being told things that aren't true and not understanding what really happens. it also doesn't help when the catholic church gets so much bad press..... and some people just spread lies about the church.

Perhaps some of the problem is with catholics who while they believe, they can't explain why they believe, so it gets confused in the translation - if you know what I mean....

It's actually a good question. If kids don't go to a Catholic school, they really don't get enough religious instruction to understand this very complex religion. I used to be fairly active in the church but had some personal problems with priests who were totally stupid. Anyway, it is not an easy way to practice your faith, even though some of the man-made rules have been changed. But, becoming un-Catholic is just about impossible for me. It's a dilemma!

Misconceptions about the Catholic Church are, to a certain degree, fostered by members of the church who do not know the doctrine. That being said, even when the real reason for certain actions, rites, and rituals are explained by knowledgeable members of the church many Christians don't agree with them. The problem is not isolated to understanding why, because some Christians simply don't agree.

tradition actually.... through the years people did not know and asking was not something people di so.... the misconceptions grew and fostered within each new generation. the Rcc was also was pretty private before Vatican II and thus, didn't always explain things as they do now.
misconceptions also grow when people have a negative feeling that they have had a long time becuase no one likes to admit - they are wrong about something! think too, if a person you trusted like a parent or such told you the wrong thing (not out of mallice but becuase it's what they were taught) you don't want to learn that that person was wrong.

i was born a catholic, and until i stopped being a catholic that's when i became a true christian....my one and only reference is the bible...there are no misconceptions...coz there r lot of crazy things going on like: why on earth do we need a pope???(that's not a stupid question) what did he do to become a holy man??? why do we need to confess our sins to a priest, don't tell me that we need a medium between us & god that's just bull...god's love & forgiveness are unconditional....anyway don't forget the shameful history of the catholic church not to mention all the misogyny and child molestation, of course there's a lot of great catholics everywhere ...but they should all see the truth...you've got christians who say that the catholic church is the actual anti-christ...and if u read the bible well you'll understand what i mean...sorry to all catholics...

The Catholic church has no authority to even exist! The scriptures reveal at least 48 times where the Lord is referred to as "The Rock" Jesus was referring to Himself when He stated "upon this rock I will build my church" The Lord will destroy the Catholic church during the tribulation for the reasons given in Revelation Ch.17 V1-9

Former Protestant, now Catholic here.

You have a point, many kids learn the very basics of the Catholic faith and then quit going to Church because it is a chore, or they would rather sleep off the night before when they get into their 20's, it is a time of rebellion and to be able to sleep late and call yourself a "Free thinker" is an appealing thing.

Most do not ever learn their faith with their adult mind.

Peace and God Bless!

-Robert Cox-Sabbath Laws and Sabbath Duties p.538 "We have transferred the sabbath day from Saturday to Sunday"
-Our Country-Chapter 5 par.2-4 "All archbishops, bishops, priests, must promise to persecute, with all their might anyone who does not worship the pope or who rebels against the pope"
-The Catholic Record-9/1/23-"Sunday is our mark of authority, the Church is above the Bible, and this transition/transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact"
-James Cardinal Gibbons-Faith of our Fathers-p.89 "You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelations and you will find not a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday"
-Institutes of Ecclesiastical Law-p.142 vol.2"The Church may, by divine right, confiscate the property of heretics, imprison their persons and condemn them to the flames."
-Dignity and Duties of the Priest-by Alphonsus de Liguori-"God himself is obliged to abide by the judgement of his priests, and either or not to pardon, according as they refuse or give absolution...the sentence of the priest precedes, and God subscribes to it"
-Doctrinal Catechism-1957 edp.174-Stephen Keenan-"All religions must agree with the catholic church, who substituded the observance of sunday, a change for which there is no scriptural authority"
You can verify every single fact I wrote, and I sincerely hope you don't feel ofended. The only thing that matters in life is our salvation, having eternal life with our Lord. There are sincere, devout Christians in all churches, including the Catholic Church. God has true people in all churches. My intention is only to help you see that sometimes our Church leaders do make mistakes. And it is only up to us to search for the truth; it may shock us, offend us or even hurt us; but it will save us.
God Bless.
