I believe in God
and Goddess
I left Christianity because I believe it is a false religion. No God creates beings with free will and then sends them to hell for exercising that gift. That makes no sense.
The other reason I believe Christianity is a false religion is based on how Christians of this era treat their faith - how they have distorted Christianity into something it never was intended to be.
Thanks for your concern, but your effort would be more fruitful if you helped out at vacation bible school or at a food bank. Most non-believers, as you put it, know more about the Bible and Christianity than most Christians. We know why we don't want any part of the faith you claim.

I can understand why you are having a difficult time with this. I was once a Christian and wouldn't have understood my position then. My beliefs come from years and years of being involved with religion, reading and studying the Bible and when I needed my religion most, it was not there for me. Nothing was there but a void. So, I studied more about the Bible and what I learned was that it was not written by the writers it led us to believe. Very little of the history was accurate. For a book that was supposed to be divinely inspired, there was just too much WRONG with it. The Bible is the basis of Christianity and Judaism. Without that foundation, none of it is true. Why believe? With all the falseness of the Bible, I had nothing to base any belief or faith upon whatsoever. First I cut religion...all religions out of my life. I know they are manmade and false and were created to give people false hopes and to control society. I clung to the belief of a God/Creator for a time, until I had to be honest with myself and give up on that idea as well, since there was no reason to there being a supernatural being out there that loves us with the way the world is today. I truly believe that if a God exists and sees the suffering of his believers and does nothing, he is evil. If a God exists and sees the suffering of his believers and cannot do anything, then he is impotent. I'd rather believe that there is no God.

I'm not trying to be smart here but the best analogy is like asking why don't I believe in the Easter bunny or Tooth Fairy.
God is part of the same system. It is a nice idea, but there is no evidence to support it. I have not seen any religion that makes a half decent argument to believe in a god. The most popular ones are full of hate, bigotry, and contradiction. That is not a system I want to be a part of. Many Christians believe what they want from the bible and discard what is inconvenient.
If I believed in God, I would do a happy dance when a loved one dies. Why do "believers" cry over death. I know he was suffering and in tremendous pain, but why did he have to leave us to live in complete happiness? That just doesn't tell me that people really believe what they claim to.

First, you should be aware of the fact that most of us are former Christians. I appreciate that you didn't jump to the silly assumption that we don't believe in God because there's something you know that we don't. I'm very sick of hearing that, and I sincerely appreciate the character you've demonstrated by not dragging us into that swamp yet again.
I don't believe in gods because there's no evidence that any gods exist.
I believe that I could have faith in god, and in fact that I'm probably far closer to achieving that than are most Christians, as I've already taken the first step of admitting that there's no evidence for the existence of gods.
So why don't I have faith in the existence of gods? I suppose simply because I don't have any need in my life for such things. In a lot of ways, it would make life easier, but I'm okay with life's challenges as they currently are.

I'd love to turn the question around on you. Why do you believe in god? Goodness knows, those of us nonbelievers constantly have to justify our lack of belief, but nobody asks a believer why he believes.
I'm an agnostic. I don't think it's possible for anyone to prove either way whether or not a god exists. I think there are some things we probably will never know--such as what happens when we die. I believe in the soul, though, as it is basically the life force. It's what makes a person who he or she is. But I don't believe in the rest of the religious stuff. It has no significance for me.

I have never really "felt" god or saw anything in life that would justify his existence. In fact, the more I learn, the more convinced I become that god does not exist. Everything in life and nature points to a universe without a god.
I do not think that faith is anything to brag about. I think that people who believe in god and "feel" him in their lives are delusional. I think religious feeling is an evolutionary byproduct of our brain development. It is similar to imagination or creativity--although I feel that religion is becoming increasingly worthless in our modern society and if humans don't do away with it, it will cause us nothing but harm.

Lack of evidence for a supernatural being as well as much more evidence for a natural cause. The answer 'god did it' just doesn't work for me. I have no problem in admitting what I do not know, but just because I am ignorant about something doesn't mean a god did it. That is why I do not believe.

I am sort if in the middle actually...but maybe more like 90% believe and 10% not so sure..and yeah thats crazy to say I guess but sometimes I just feel like the questions some people bring up do in a way get me wondering. I dont consider myself atheist or anything but I do wonder..but I must say it bothers me that I am not as in touch with that side of things as I probably should be..
Clearly, you can see how unclear I am about this subject...

i believe in science, honest and whole. it's not that i don't believe in God, but to put a believe structure on something as larger as religion, it's dangerous. history has proved this in many ways, i'm not just talking of religion. a have faith that one day science will be able to prove God is real or that he isn't, so we can move together and save ourselves. a guess i'm not a non believer. it's just that, war, hate, pain, chaos, death are just a few of the bad parts that religion has brought to the world, to it's people. it makes you wonder what is the greater evil, to support it or to deny it.
