Well, the Aztec religion had the Jaguar Mother (forget the actual name) who rends you limb from limb in the afterlife . . . that's pretty scary.

My own traditions are unusual in that the bad guy---Surt---sort of actually WINS by destroying the nine worlds with a flaming sword. Fortunately, most of us understand that's metaphor. :-)

I'd say a better question would be which religion has the scariest *good* guy, but I think a few responders already beat me to the punchline on that one.

Well buddhism has some pretty freaky demons. Except for christianity and islam, other religions are polytheistis. That means more than one figure to worship.
Buddhism, Hindu, Karishna(sp?)....They have some pretty scary demons. Multiple heads and arms, grotesque inside out bodies, things other than a head for a head or other body parts.
Voodoo has a mixture of catholosism and african tribal rights, so they have some creative yet normal looking "bad guys" human looking demons with crazy powers, talking snakes and other beasts.

My first choice for the scariest god was Shiva, the destroyer of worlds (read "universe"). But as I delved into his character, Shiva also has some good points. For example, Shiva is also the god of meditation and the rebirth of the universe. So he's not all bad. (http://www.siamese-dream.com/page/siam1/CTGY/article-hindu-gods-shiva)

My pick for the most evil being is Satan from the Judeo-Christian and Islamic religions. He is more personally scary because he likes to torture people for eternity.

The Judeo Christian God aided in many mass slaughters in the Old Testament, cleansed the earth with a flood, rained fire and brimstone on people, turned people into salt, invented languages on the spot on a whim, and scared the living crap out of a lot of 'Christians." That is why people are "God Fearing."

He even made his own son suffer and then wait three days before calling him home!

The Abrahamic religions. They have this one character that can do anything you can think of and if he gets mad at someone, he just might decide to kill YOU for it. Why? So that he can teach the person he's mad at and that person's friends a lesson. He's not a very skilled diplomat. I think he's the inspiration behind G.W.Bush's antics.

I'm a Christian, but I'm not really afraid of any religious bad guy, such as Satan, or any others. They can't do anything to me. I'm most scared of the terrorists who go around killing people in the "name" of Islam.
